The point I was going to make if no one else did!!!
Keep your distance measured as if you were on flat ground and you will be fine out past any acceptable hunting ranges. I have practiced this theory from rooftops and from my deerstands and it holds very true. Base of tree @ 20 yards from trail, set up to hit dead on from 20 yards, climb tree 20 feet and shoot. you will be dead on.

Here you go, Sight it in at 20 yds on the ground, then 12 yds from 12' up and your good to go.

I've been bowhunting for 26 years and then some and I've taken a lot of shots from a tree stand. The problem I had wasn't the distance of the shot but the angle of the shot that determined my aim point. Most shots I take are 20 yards and under and I always use my 20 yard pin but if it was a steep angle I always had to aim low. I used a peep site for years but I found that when I shot from a stand , especially at a steep angle, I was lowering my anchor point thus causing my arrow to go high. I used a peep site with a 3/16th hole so I could still see through it under low light conditions. All that changed last year when I discovered the "No Peep" and I took my peep sight off. Last year I took 2 bucks from my stand and aimed high behind the shoulder and the arrow exited through the brisket on one and low shoulder on the opposite side on the other. So if I don't have $70 to buy a new sight I should just measure off 20, 30, 40 yards on the ground. Then use my sight to shoot those yardages as normal from a tree? Btw I put up a ladder stand it's about 12 ft. I'm hoping this will work.

Yep. Measure off the base of the tree. One of my favorite local 3D courses has a medium deer target 10 yards away but about 30 yards down a steep incline. More arrows are shot over that deers back than the whole rest of the course. It might be 30 yards away line of sight, but it's only 10 yards in front of the shooter.
