Game cams, digital is the ONLY way to go
 

First off, let me pimp my choice in camera, the cuddeback is awesome!!!

I put out some corn 2 weeks ago and just checked my camera this past weekend. I had
249 pics!!! in 2 weeks. Ofcourse, most were the same deer getting captured every minute or two. Batteries were still blowing and going strong. I do have a large memory card, not sure which one, but the standard card will not hold that many.

Back in the day of 35mm, I wouldn't have had much more than 1/10 of those pics!!!

Don't waste your money on the cheaper 35mm versions of cameras, you will save MUCH more in the long-run using digital. Also, don't fall victim to some of the battery draining models of digital game cams. Do you think the battery draining stealth would have made it to 250 pics and still over half battery life left?

Double, how's the quality of the pics? I guess it really doesn't matter since I don't plan on framing them, just using them as data, but I'm curious.

1. I'm perfectly happy with the quality of my Stealth cam!

2. If it gets stolen I'm out $70 , how much would you be out?

Not to cut on the cuddleback but if you are comparing battery life I believe you're comparing watermellons to grapes. What type and how many battery dose you cuddleback take. If memory serves me correct I believe you cam takes 4 d cell batteries as opposed to 6aa in the stealth. I guess my question will come to botton line cost. In my 1.3 mp digital setalth I get 20 day (just shy of 3 weeks) on 6aa rayovac batteries. I buy a 24 pack a wallyworld for $7.00. that $1.75 every 3 weeks or $0.58 a week to run the cam.

I'm not trying to discerdit the cuddleback but it's unfair to group all stealth cams as "battery hogs" as that just isn't the case. The 3.0 mp stealth may very well fit the profile but not the 1.3.

adams, I was referring to the 3.0. It is infamous as a battery hog. My cam has been out for as long as 8 weeks during dead of winter without losing batteries.

by23856, at first, the quality was not very good on daytime pics. But, the last few hundred pics I have been excellent, I don't know what the difference was, but qaulity is great now.

Bowfanatic, I hunt private land, so theft is of no concern. The odds of theft on my place are minimal. I would be out $400 if stolen, but If I would have processed the over 500 pics I've gotten since xmas, I would already be out roughly $150 in 6 months.

I really like what I've seen/read about the Cuddeback. However the price has kept me from picking one up. With all the talk of people having cameras stolen I would want to lose $400. [&:]

I agree the cuddleback is a great cam. I like the fact you can inprint your name for added security and correct me if I'm wrong but I think they have passwords as well. That's great. I also agree that digital is the way to go. Althought there is an initial investment, the time and money saved in developing and the conveience of a digtal make it worth the extra money for me.

From every report I heard the 3.0 is very tough on batteries. Stealth dose seem to be willing to work with customers to resolve the issue but I'm still waiting to see how that all plays out. I had been really satisfied with my 1.3. I curious to see how it dose in the late season when the temps get colder.

adams, I've heard the northern winters can be rough on batteries, luckily I don't have that problem. I hope it works out for you. I too have heard good things about the 1.3. Hopefully Stealth will work out the problems with the 3.0 before losing a valuable customer base.

And yes, the cuddeback does have passwords and other security features, but I don't use them. I haven't taken the time to figure them out yet.

9v for the sensor will last most of the year.
2 AA's in the camera will last for many, many picturs.
