am i too late
 

Since I am very new to bowhunting, I was wondering if it is too late for me to get into the woods and start scouting? Bow season here in Texas will start around the first of October. Do I need to look for places where I will need a climber or is it possible for me to bowhunt out of a ground blind. I have been very successful out of the ground blind during regular season, but I dont know if it is possible with a bow. Any ideas you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

you've got a long road ahead that needs to be covered quickly. But you can do it if your motivated. What is your set up like? More information would help.

Too late, no. But you've definately waited until the 11th hour. This time of year it is best to do less intrusive scouting. Wathcing fields through binos at dusk is a good way to see what's around without pressuring the deer. Here's a great articel on summer scouting you may find interesting.

Thank you so much for responding. Idaho, when you ask about my set up I am not sure what you are asking. As far as a bow I have just recently recieved a PSE pro series Triton. 2 years ago I bought a pop-up ground blind that I have been very successful with. My closest (with my 30.06) shot out of the ground blind was around 50 yards and I could have gotten the 8 pointer close, but I was impatient.:):) Where I am hunting is in the piney woods of North East Texas on a lease with a friend of mine that knows the area really well. That is a plus because he can help me out quite a bit. I will be in the woods every weekend from now until opening morning with my glasses scouting. I hope that I will be able to put myself in a good spot.

I have just a few suggestions. First, your hunting technique should be the one you have the most confidence in. If you haven't had time to do any scouting and the area is fairly new to you get a topo map and find terrain features that would cause the deer to funnel into an area. (i.e. saddles, benches, edges of long steep drop-offs etc.) If you know the area well and have had success in a particular area, start there. Ask the landowner what he has seen over the last few weeks. Talk to people who have hunted there over the last few years if the will tell you the truth. Look at an aerial photo of the area and find go to the old stand-by, find a thick bedding area and find the feeding area than set up in between. During pre-rut, try to get a close to the bedding are as you dare to catch the bucks. And move closer to the feeding area the closer the peak of the rut gets. Good luck
