RE: Trying Mechanicals
Try the Spitfire 100's. I shot them for 3 years, and this year I am going back to fixed blades. Nothing against the Spitfire, I just like the fixed heads better. The Spitfires are dead on accurate, and are devastating on deer. Good Luck!!!

RE: Trying Mechanicals
spifires or shockwaves have shot lots of deer with both and have never run more than 40 yards, but you have to watch for angled shots which can and will cause deflection. i love my muzzy's though and they shoot same as my fieldpoints with my mathews outback.

RE: Trying Mechanicals
The easy way out can get you into trouble. Without knowing the details of your setup I can't recomend a mechanical head for you. I do suggest you go to www.broadheadtests.com and read the mech vs fixed as well as the tuning sections. That will help you decide more than anything.

RE: Trying Mechanicals
I wouldn't say that going to mechanicals is the lazy way out. I switched from wasp fixed blades to wasp jak-hammers last year and it was the best move I'd made as far as an equipment upgrade in years. They cost a bit more but were very accurate and deadly. I took 2 bucks from my stand at steep angles and both dropped within 50 yards. Good Huntin........

RE: Trying Mechanicals
I think the steelhead is supposed to penetrate about as well as a fixed blade...
this year in my huinting quiver i am trying 3 different mechanicals that all fly the same for me -- 2 spitfire 100's, 1 steelhead 100, and 1 mini max 3 I have a ton of extras, but I am going to try all these out and and see what I would like to use more permanently... |
RE: Trying Mechanicals
ORIGINAL: trailblazer I really like the looks of the rocket steelhead in 100 grain model. What do yu folks think? Been shooting them for a while now, really great broadhead!;) |
RE: Trying Mechanicals
I shoot spitfires and they are extremely accurate and fly just like my field points. I haven't shot a deer with them yet but two friends stuck turkeys with them and they worked phenomenally.
