Never shot a bear...but..

Will my setup work on black bear?

I shoot Beaman ICS Hunter 400's tipped with Rocket Stealhead 100's at 252 fps. If I crank it up to 70, it would be faster.

I have been seeing bear at one of my treestands and have had to wait for hours to come down......just to be sure they are gone.

I know I'd like to harvest one with my bow someday...but would want to make sure my setup will do well first.

If my arrows or broadheads are unsuitable....what is?

You should figure out your kinetic energy and then ask this question. I don't think a lot of people will recommend mechanicals for bear.

I'd say with your setup and a well placed shot, you shouldnt have a problem at all.

Thank you for the replies guys. I'm getting ready to go to the shop now and have her cranked up to 70 and we're gonna re-tune and paper tune. Thanks again.

How many lbs are you shooting at now? Make sure those 400's are still ok at 70lbs. You might need to switch to the 340's.

@ 70lbs you should have plenty of KE to get thru a bruin. Good luck, I've always wanted to arrow a bear.

I'm at 60 now...what do I look for with my 400's when I switch to 70? Getting ready to go to shop now. I mean...like how will I know if I have to switch to 340's?

You can enter your info into Bemans shaft selector to get an idea. http://www.beman.com/shaft-selector/index.tpl

But I'm sure the pro-shop will be able to give you a definative answer.

Alias,

I use Beman ICS 400's and pull 70 pounds. My arrows fly true and I use a fixed broad head, so I think you should be fine.
