Buddy needs help-string hits chest-OUCH!
A hunting bud of mine is having probs with string hitting his chest. We are trying to figure out how to solve the problem. He shoots a release. As he has been shooting the bow for a few years, and the problem only recently surfaced, is there anything he could look to as the culprit?
Any suggestions are appreciated. |

does he have 10 inch protruding breasts? I really can't see how it is possible for the sting to hit someone's chest.

Never heard of someone having the string hit their chest. If I was gonna guess I would say its a draw length issue, maybe if his draw is to long he is somehow getting his chest in the way. He may want to contact George Castanza and purchase a Bro that may give him some more clearance.;);)

The guy is a little round in the middle, but no more than normal. I thought that maybe he has too long a draw length. Could it be something he is doing as far as shooting form? I have done this a few times and I'm pretty thin, but only on rare occasion does it happen with me. My thinking is that it is a combination of a little too much draw length and stance. I think that if he faces the target a little more head on it will change the geometry enough. He may be facing too much sideways to the target.

Draw length is too long, stance is too open, too big around the middle, maybe locking out his bow arm and he's probably leaning back to boot. Try him with a bow at least a couple inches shorter in the draw. Have him move his back foot forward to turn his shoulders more to the target. Keep the elbow unlocked with maybe a slight outward bend.
If all else fails, he can buy a chest protector to keep his stuffin's out of the string.;) |

yeah his stance has to be wrong for his body.... have him try experimenting with it.

has to be his form

I thought this was another Martin bow ad post:eek::D
I'd almost think his dl is too long and he has to compensate by "over drawing" which results in a titty-slap.;) |

I agree with the others, his draw length has to be too long. And I bet he shoots with some kinda funky angle.
Get him to quit shooting and go over basic fundamentals with him. Stance, draw length, release point, and it should help him and his little chest problem out. |
RE: Buddy needs help-string hits chest-OUCH!
I should add that he shoots an older bow, probably ten years or more. It is fairly long by todays standard axle/axle length. This is probably why alot of newer archers will never have known or heard of this problem. The new mini bows with their 30 inch axle/axle have too sharp a string angle to get near your chest. Try an older bow with about a 44 inch axle/axle and you will know this phenomenon on occasion. Ask a competitive recurve shooter and they will know what you are talking about.
