While I'm not a fan of wreckless yahoos blasting away and mowing down every deer that runs by, I have made use of deer drives and an effective tool to get deer. From 2 man drives in the late season, to big groups driving out mountains, I enjoy them in thier time and place.

You should not be against dogs. My lab will circle a field while I sit quietly. What ever is there she will push right to me. Here in ohio we are not aloud to hunt deer with dogs. We are aloud to hunt fall turkey though. The deer slip out ahead of the dog usually right by me. She was taught not to run after them though. Hunting with that dog have been some of the best years of my life. I see more deer during turkey season then I do in deer season.

How many of you that are ragging on this style of hunting has ever been on a deer drive?

Deer drives are successful and fun. And if you think that no deer will make it through a drive you should see all of them that run out behind the walkers after they've passed within feet of them. It takes a well planned out drive to actually be successful. If you do it wrong you will almost certainly see few or no deer.

I don't promote the use of trucks or ATV's while driving but driving while walking is an old method and productive.

I have no problem with drives. I don't drive deer, because now I mostly bowhunt, and it's not as useful for bowhunting.

I had no real problem with the show. I saw it, and the only time I questioned it was when they were shooting at the doe running across the ridgeline. #1...They were just blasting at it. #2....there was no backstop on the other side of that ridge.

It's a legal method for hunting. If you disagree with it, fine. But I can't see calling them slob hunters if they are following the law.

Lighten up guys. It looked like they were having a good time and they said they had been doing this over 20 years together. Saying that it's not for me. I like solitude and especially like to be left totally alone with the woods to myself.

I think drives a Great way to get deer and have fun as long as its done in a safe responsible way. If you want a first year hunter or someone who has not gotten a deer than thats the way to go. I live in Mass and people abuse 'pushing' way to much. They get like thirty guys and its just a spray and pray game in little woods[:'(] All you need is to get like 5 people and do a nice push and take safe shots only. And i like how they didn't target just trophy bucks. I think a deer is a deer and there was no competition. Here in Mass our buck to doe ratio is horrible. I will take any doe that walks out in front of me.

I thought it was a great way to show drives and they seemed very responsible and ate everything. I liked the show alot.

I saw that same show they shot about a dozen deer then towards the end of the show they took a picture of a big pile of deer and the group of people behind them. needles to say I wasent to impressed

I have been involved with drives since I was little.
On the last two days of gun season, everyone in our group that hasn't tagged out yet meets up. We then push small timbers and such hoping to fill our tags. My group is usually 6 or 8. We have had great success with this method.
If you don't set up a drive right you will not get any deer.
If everyone goes really slow the deer do not run. I have always got shots at standing deer, usually within 50 yrds.
It's fun to share a hunt like this with 6 or 8 of your best friends.

I saw it. I have never been on a deer drive, but I think it is o.k.

Just because you may think that deer hunting is playing the wind and sitting in a stand does not mean that it is the same way for everyone. So, disagree with it, fine, but I wouldn't call it not hunting. they are using their resources of people instead of the method of being stealthy in the woods.
