How much does a butcher charge?
For those of you who dont process a deer yourself, (I'm not going to, dont have the right area or stuff) How much does a butcher charge?
|
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
I've always done my own, but I also help a friend who does it on the side for extra $$$.
He gets $50 just to skin it, cut and wrap steaks and roasts. He separates the meat for grinding, if wanted, but doesn't do that for the $50. He will grind and package for an extra $15. |
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
45 to 65 dollars here depending on how you bring it in and how you want it processed. Plus it is extra for sausage and smoking. I just do my own and make my own sausage, and I built a smokehouse that I can do a whole deer in if I wanted.

RE: How much does a butcher charge?
basic cuts used to run like 35 here.....but since we get to shoot ALOT more deer each year now the butchers take advantage of it and jacked the prices.....we are paying like 100bucks a deer......but we get alot of specialty meats made....kilbasa...sausage...bologna.....all kinds of stuff like that......if we got all of our deer just basic cut..steaks chops ground meat....we wouldnt eat as much.....but we love our special meats.....and take about 4 deer a year between me and dad.....it last us a good while......we still have some special meat left.....not much...we are down to the wire....but we got some left..........cant wait to stock the freezer!

RE: How much does a butcher charge?
45$ last year...wouldn't be suprised if they go up this year. But that covered skinning, cut , wraped & frozen, included hamburger ground & pkg. also.
Specialities like "Summer Sausage" are extra, I have forgotten how much extra. |
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
A good Butcher in my area of NY cost about $60. If you want sausage it is an extra $1 per pound (mixed with pork).

RE: How much does a butcher charge?
I do my own but an accaintance of mine took his deer in last year along with his wifes deer and when he went to go pick it up, the butcher told him there wasn't very much meat because the shoulders were blown off. My friend said both of his deer were shot behind the shoulder and he was actually given someone esles deer and had to pay $75.00 ea. If you don't know how to process deer, I suggest in investing in a meat grinder that you can get through Cabelas or Bass pro for a $100.00, money well spent. ;) Bobby

RE: How much does a butcher charge?
I had mine done by the butcher last year and if you gut it your self he charges $80 I believe but it kind of changes on what all you want My familys well known here so I got a discount and he only charged me $50 for 1/2 sausage 1/2 hamburger and he cut the back straps into steaks and he skinned, butchered, wrapped, and froze it all, But he kinda changes up depending on what all you want as far as all sausage 1/2 and 1/2, all burger and so on. But he does a really good job

RE: How much does a butcher charge?
Last year $270 bucks for a large doe. I got jerky, brats, ground with 50% ground beef mixed, spicy sticks, and country sausage, and of coarse steaks and chops.
Good Luck! |
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
Prices around here avg. $50 per deer ( boned out steaks, chops, roasts, and ground meat or stew meat) Although its not that high I still prefer to do it myself.
About 10 years ago a buddy helped me do a doe I shot with the muzzleloader. He did one side of the deer as it hung in the garage and he watched me do the other side and guided me along. It was a great help and I payed him with a $40 gift certificate from the liquor store. Believe me it was money well spent! I have been doing my own since and actually enjoy it. I take my time and it usually takes around 1and 1/2 to 2 hrs to complete a deer. Thats skinning, separating muscle groups, slicing into steaks and chops, cutting stew meat and tying roasts. I dont grind any at first but when I need ground meat I open a 2 lb. package of stew meat and run it through my grinder. I believe that this process is an important part of the hunting experience and makes me more appreciative of the animal harvested. What I mean is that I know EXACTLY what I am eating. Just my opinion though. Mr.D |
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
My local professional butcher charges 65 cents per pound.
So a 150 pound dressed deer would run you between $95 - $100. Plus $25 if you want the cape back, or $20 if you want the hide back. There are also a couple guys who do it as a side buisness in the fall. They both charge $50 no matter the weight. No extra charge for capes or hides. |
RE: How much does a butcher charge?
Last year it was around $55 dollars which included your regular cut and burger. If you wanted pork added to the burger, or other items i.e. sausage etc... it costs additional. I think that is where they make the money, they extra stuff...
