How long is a NOCK good for??

How long is a NOCK good for?

I mean, after awhile, a nock doesnt fit as tight as it used to? Should you change nocks then? or is it still ok to use?

I generally change my nocks when I can nock an arrow, point the arrow to the ground, and flick the string and the arrow pops off. Of course it may also be because of the serving wear where the nock fits on the string.

That's how fingers shooters test for proper nock fit! If the nock is snug enough to keep the arrow on the string until you flick it, the nock fit is perfect. If it's a snap fit, it's way too tight.

Release shooters need their nocks a tad tighter, but you still don't want a heavy snap fit. Nocks that tight will kill your speed and energy.

You can't just say 'nocks will only last this long'. There are too many types of nocks, made out of too many materials. Too many different types and sizes of serving materials. Some guys shoot 300-500 arrows every day. Some don't shoot 100 arrows in a year (if that![>:]).

They've got to be checked regularly.

When my nock becomes loose, I have been just biting it once, then it seems to fits good. Does that cause problems?

Not if your bite bends each ear the exact same amount and keeps the ears centered over the nock's throat. Myself, I don't have quite that kind of precision in my jaws. [8D]

:D Very good, I deserved that! LOL

Thanks Arthur P! I never thought about that throwing the arrow off! Guess I better change some nocks!

I do the same thing but my knock stays on the arrow till it breaks or falls off completley then its time for a new one

What I have found with nocks is , if you are shooting a loop , they last ,or hold up for a desent amount of time . If you shoot off of the string without a cusion like me , they are very disposable , dont last worth a darn , hince the signature . Im going back to shooting a cusion below, a brass nock above with a tyed nock above the brass one , hope to get somemore life out of them . Right now shooting them the way I do , Id say I get about 2-3 hundred shots before they are junk . Auther is right about fit , its important , and broadheads will fly like junk with tight fitting nocks .
