What type of elk decoys do you use, if any? (brand)... Also what material do you think is best? Plastic stuff of the polyester stuff???

Thanks

RE: Decoy???

I've used one of those fold up 2-D decoys a few times without much success. Last year I had a decent 6 pointer walk up towards it from a direction that I did not anticipate so the buck couldn't even see the decoy until he got about 5 feet from the decoy. Then when he did see it, he freaked out and ran back where he came from. When he looked back he could no longer see the decoy so he took off and I heard him blowing the whole way across the select cut. I put the decoy a way after that. I'm sure I'll try one again this year.

yes they use decoys....if u are looking for something to packup real easy and light in weight....try Montana Decoys. i have a deer decoy by them and it is great. it fits in my backpack and when i open the pack...."BIONG"!! it pops open. i believe they have an elk decoy...

hold up...the elk came 5 ft from a decoy and u couldnt shoot?? the decoy did it's job.. decoys like that of the montana decoy are meant to get the animal interested and draw them in. being that the decoy has no demension or angles, it will usually alert the animal and it will shy from it(run off). when an animal is drawn to the decoy..shoot, if u can

I've used them some, the Montana Decoy is the best and most realistic I've seen. If you're purely a runner & gunner when it comes to elk hunting, then they'd be tough to use in those situations. But for waterholes, wallows, blind setups and create excitement, or between bedding and feeding areas with light calling, then they're awesome! Click on My Site and scan around, you can see a picture of several of them. ElkNut1
