Whats some of the wierdest things youve done whenh
I was curious to see if poeplo have done even wierder things than i have to get that big buck or whatever else. One thing i did last year was, id gotten permission to hunt this one place that held some monster deer.after scouting it out, i noticed they used this one field very heavily, but, the only cover was on this side where they hadded flooded for duck hunting.well, i wasnt going to just watch the deer, so i made a plan. The timber they flooded had some good size trees in it and since it was just recently flood, i new the trees would be stable to hold me. So i took my stand and placed it in the water about 10 yards out. This was the only place to put it and because of the lack of cover surrounding the field and the way the wind always blew, i had to wade through the slough about 300 yards to get to my stand. So, i was huntin deers in waders 15 feet up a tree. Pretty funny lookin also.
Another thing was, when i was like 7 or 8, i began bowhunting for rabbits and squirrels and just about anything i could find. Well, My uncle gave me this great tip that if i walked backwords the animals would think i was walking away and they wouldnt get scared. So i tried it, It worked on one squirrel, but thats because it was sittin in the tree(laughing at me probably)my uncle and dad thought it was funny also. One thing that really works is when you see geese way far off, and you dont have any wind for your decoys or you dont use flags, you can run across the field waving your arms and jumping up and down while calling(please leave your gun on the ground while doing this)ive had this work quite a few times, and it gets great laughs from the other guys. One friend of mine had another deer hunting problem, there were no trees in his area. But there was a sand bank, so he dug a good sized hole in the side of the bank and just sat in it, he got a deer to. I would really like to hear some of yalls wacked out hunting tactics. Thanks |

Nothing to fancy for me.I used my dirty underwear and socks already.Hang them on the other trails so the deer come to your trail instead.Always made the wife go with me when she was having your menstral cycle. The bucks could smell her a mile away LOL.Then she had a hysterectomy and then ended that.So now I get the used napkins from the local hotel for bait.I dressed up as a christmas tree.My wife made me a christmas tree suit.Only tree in the forrest that walked around.

Well you all may laugh about CD's pad theory, but I plan on trying it this year, I just hope my wife doesn't catch me getting them out of the trash! I mentioned it to her last season and she told me I was sick.

While that theory may hold water, it's still disgusting! But, if you guys want to rummage through the garbage for used rags then feel free....I'll stick to more traditional scent tactics!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I tried to get my wife in the woods the past year too. Her monthly time was right at the peak of the rut. Would've been perfect, but she wouldn't go for it and wouldn't save me any pads either. I even set a baggy in the bathroom for her to put it in, but she wouldn't comply. I've heard this can work and my grandfather has shot deer this way.

I've told this before so if you've heard it I'm sorry. I was in Georgia for the Xmas Holidays. My brother-in-law invited me to hunt with him on his clubs lease. Over an early breakfast he said he was going to put me on a power line. I objected saying they had been shooting these deer all year and they were in the thickets somewhere. I looked over the airial photo and picked a spot where no stands were marked. He said, "You can't get there. It's surrounded by flooded land". I said how close can you drive. He said maybe 1/4 of a mile. I said that's close enough. I put on my rubber boots and a rain suit. I then duct taped the cuffs, waist and zipper area. Just as it was getting grey I started out across the flooded ground. I had to back up and go forward several times when I couldn't feel the bottom in front of me. When I finally navigated the 150 yards of water it was already light. I knelt down at the edge of the water and was ripping off the duct tape so I could remove the rain suit. I heard him splashing through the water. My side of the pond was thick. I raised my gun and nailed the biggest buck killed on the property that year at a distance of maybe 10 yards. I broke out the tape, taped myself up and backtracked across the pond towing my buck. I dressed him when I reached the other shore.

Probably not as extreme as others - but my cousin and I have had good luck walking through thick cover together, then one of us stays put at a spot with a vantage, as the other trudges on. It seems, that deer cannot count and will often circle behind the "fool hunter" the entered the thicket, offering an easy shot for the one left behind.
