Nocks turning in carbons!!!
I was just out shooting and everything felt perfect. My eyes were clear, my arm steady and my group was terrible. I tried 2-3 groups and finally checked my vanes while the arrow was nocked and the nocks had turned just enough in a few of the shafts to really throw off my shooting. I realise I could just use a drop of superglue and set them all but havn't done it. Has anyone ever had this happen or does anyone glue in their nocks in carbons? after I straitened them my group went right down to where I like it.
Something for the carbon shooters here to watch for. |
RE: Nocks turning in carbons!!!
If you're shooting something like the ICS Hunters or similar carbons with the standard carbon nocks just pushed in.. this is going to happen, especially if you shoot HARD surfaced targets. The problem is with the nock free floating in the shaft when it impacts the target the momentum of the nock continues and in a real sense slams into the back of the shaft at the shoulder. Over time the shaft actually begins to split or loose stability. You can try a new nock to see if it's better... but either way you'll end up with the problems described. The best solution to a carbon arrow is to glue in ACC nock adapters and use the ACC nocks. You'll have to sort out the size for your shaft. What this does is add a TREMENDOUS amount of shaft stability. You will no longer have shafts cracking and you'll never have the nock problems again. Take your existing nocks and push on them sideways in several directions around the shaft. See if there's give or you actually see cracks. Eventually they'll come without a glued in insert. It adds a few bucks to a dozen arrows to glue in the inserts... but the shafts last forever.

RE: Nocks turning in carbons!!!
i had the same problem ... simply pull the nock out , put a tiny piece of plastic wrap or cling wrap on the part u put down into the arrow , and then stuf it back in , it holds tight as can be .... ogt that tip off the archery shops owner!

dont glue..if nock breaks, you wreck arrow

RE: Nocks turning in carbons!!!
But if you glue in an ACC insert it works just fine. Pop out the broken nock and push in a new one.
