practice qestion

i have been shooting through hay bails. the arrows pass all the way through the first set and stick in a second set a little more than an arrow lenght behind so the fletchings/vains dont get stuck in the hay. is this ok for the arrows passing through the hay or should i get another target.

Hay bales just don't cut it for modern equipment. Way to fast and way to much energy. You need a get a comercial target like a bag target or something like the block. It's a layered foam target. They are kind of expensive though. Bag targets don't cost as much.

You can make one as well. Just take a burlap feed bag or something simular and fill it with shop rags or old clothes or something and maybe some poly fill (pillow stuffing). You could just use a bunch of old pillow probably as well. This should stop your arrows and makes for easy removal. Be careful about getting it wet if you use old clothes or something. If the arrow stick in wet denim or something you will have a heck of a time getting them back out.

When it gets all shot up, just take everything out of that bag and put it in another one. They even sell the empy target bags someplaces. They already have target faces on them.

Good luck,
Paul

I'd suggest a block target... one that uses layers compressed to capture the arrow. They are very durable and stop even the hottest bows on the market today. They are quite portable, free standing and will absorb hundreds of shots without flinching. A good all around target for both field points and BH's with ease of arrow removal.

i recently picked up a mckenzie bag target for my basement. Excellent target for field points, much cheaper that the Block and black hole. Only downfall is no broadhead, but i shoot those at the club

I prefer bag targets for field tip shooting and the cheap foam targets from Walmart for broadheads. They work well for me.
