is it too early to hang my stand?
I was thinking of heading down this weekend to hang a couple of stands. Bow season starts Oct 1 here in Illinois. Do you think I am getting ahead of myself??

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
It's funny you should as the question like that. Most everyone is worried about not getting them out soon enough. I like mine to be a couple of weeks early (2-3 weeks) much more than that I get worried some will take them home with them[:'(]

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
don't really think it's ever too early to hang stands. Some people never even take them down. My season starts in about a month, and I just hung a stand last week. I don't havg many, since I use my climber 95% of the time. But I like to hang them anywhere from 5 minutes to one year early.:D Anywhere in there you should be okay, as long as you're quiet while putting them in.

Nope. THe sooner the better. Just check it a week in advance to make sure no wasps or anything unwanted has moved in. ;)

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
I agree the sooner the better, also less to carry out to your hunting spot as well

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
I have all my shooting lanes cut out but will wait till 2 weeks before season to hang stands. I don't won't my stands stolen.

i'll be havin' at least 5 stands out....one is already up, al i have to do is check the water level and make sure i dont have to swim to it, lol.....the others i will putting up after this hurricane and the water level has dropped.......if it doesnt then i'll do it anyway:) i'm hunting 2 different WMA's, 3 at the one and 2 at the other....i can't wait, getting butterflies just thinking about being in my stand :D:D:D

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
I prefer to have all my scouting, all my stands hung and shooting lanes cut by late July. I've hunted the same land for about 5 years now, so there's really no new scouting I can do other than a trail moving 10-20 feet either way. All I do is do some long distance scouting from July till opener in Sept.

the sooner you get them hung out the better. the deer need time to get used to them

Get 'em out now. I just got back from hanging several more myself.

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
Get em out there as soon as possible and get your stinky arse out of the woods!!![:-] I leave most of my stands out and just tighten and trim them up well before season opener.

RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
If you know where you want it get it up. I think the most important thing is to get it brushed out right away, and give the deer time to get used to it!
Good Luck! |
RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
Ok I have to adress this....No offense to anyone really.....but if deer have to get used to your stand, dosent that mean they can see it, if they can see it ,they can see you. I just hung one this afternoon sat down to check out the view and I had just enough time to plant my behind down on the seat when 2 does walked inches from where my pull up rope was hanging.
the same place where I was sweating and cussin just 15 min before they showed up....so all in all I would pay more attention to where you put it rather than when you put it up.........Deer throw me off sometimes...Its 10% homework + 90% luck =100% success |
RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
Maybe, maybe not. If your setting up on a food source, that food source might change by the opener. Will the corn be picked or still standing? Will the beans still be standing? What about the alfalfa? Does the farmer plan on cutting it around the opener, or will it have already grown back? Will a white oak be dropping acorns back in the woods? I know some treestands produce every year so they can be hung now, but I learned long ago when hunting early season food sources you need to ANTICIPATE as best you can what the deer will be doing THEN not NOW. Or you'll be changing your set ups right before the opener. Just someting to ponder.

They just will know something is different in their living room. The longer that something is out there for them to accept that its' a part of their living room the better. |
RE: is it too early to hang my stand?
yeah I do understand the concept and agree with it, but put the coffee cup in the dark corner of the hallway celing where I travel everyday, chances are I will never notice it.....
In my neck of the woods the deer dont seem to look to much in the trees for predators....I guess they havent caught on yet And I shure as heck dont look for my coffe cup on the celing either...lol...friendly ribbing thats all Just do what makes you feel confident... |
