Facemask???

Ely Haydel once said "if every waterfowler in America would wear a facemask the kill would go way up." I believe the same would hold true for archery deer hunters. Unless you are fully bearded or wear face paint you should be wearing one. I feel naked without one.

Agree or disagree?

I really like the idea of them but have always been afraid that my kisser button would catch on it...

The only way your kisser button is going to catch on it is if you have a hole for your mouth cut in it. I tried shooting with my turkey hunting facemask which I cut a hole out of so I'd be able to take out my diaphragm calls easier and I had it rip it off my head. I plan on buying a new one before September without a hole in it. Face paint is just too messy and has a distinct smell to it.

I always wear one that has one hole for the eyes with the little rubber nose piece. I wear the floppy camo bucket hat over that, so the deer think I look cool.:D

If you are worried about your kisser button catching then just buy a lycra one. They fit tight against your face and are made from the same material that biker shorts are made from. I got mine at cabelas and love it.

I have a face mask. Am I that ugly where I need it? [8D];)

Ah, the ol' "world's ugliest, funkiest, tie photo"! ;) This probably ranks right up there with Davidmil's photos, Pork Chop's "blinding white legs photo", and Buck Magnet's "famous neon yellow shirt photo", and half a dozen more photos....

Anyway, I wear a face mask when turkey hunting and duck/goose hunting. I never wore it deer hunting though and I always assumed it would get in the way of my bow string.

A couple smears of face paint is much easier for me. I could see that you wouldn't want to use paint in some situations...but it works for me.

One less piece of equipment I have to worry about. If I lose my paint....I'll go with some mud.

If you choose to wear one, you need to shoot with it on before hand. Its an entire different feel when you anchor. I prefer wearing makeup or mostly what I do is have my knit cap pulled down over my forhead, and one of those fleece neck warmers puller up to below my eyes. Depending on how the deer is coming in I just flick the bottom piece out of the way either right before I draw, or even at full draw.

Disagree!

I have tried to wear them for years. I usually wear them and then pull them down to shoot. I never could get use to shooting with any type of face pask. It always interfers with my anchor. Last year I ditched it completely. I saw more deer and killed more deer, last year, than I have at any time in the last five years. I can honestly say that there was not one time that not having a face mask was an issue. I only had a couple of deer look up at me and the ones that did looked up and then came on by.

I agree. I got a great deal on a scentlok close out. I'm not a big believer in scent lok but if there is one section of body that needs supression it is the head. Most scent comes from your hair and breath and I hope this will help to combat it. I also wear a head mask to keep those pesty skeeters away until the thermacell gets fired up on windy days. I can't sit still with a skeeter in my ear[:@]

I can't stand any type of mask. Even on cold days. The closest thing was a hat with the face cut out. I could raise and lower over my face as needed. I do piss off the wife come 1 sept and grow a full beard.
