Do you see anything unusual in this pic?

If so I'll tell you the story.

Well except for a hunter in a tree stand almost on top of that buck, no I don't! Do we hear the story now?

19-29 means 7:29 PM

Guess that didn't take too long.:) Let me just say if the picture didn't open right to where I was in the tree it might have taken y'all a little longer.

So here's the story, got back from the beach a little early on Sunday and decided to hang a stand, don't have much time these days so every minute counts. I walk by my trail camera and see there's a bunch of pics on it so I'm excited. I hang the stand in record time, I think it took me about 20 minutes.

Get up there and clear a few limbs and sit down to take a breather. I swear I took two breathes and heard the deer coming. Now I'm wearing khaki shorts, a grey t-shirt and white shoes. Dripping with sweat, my head, shirt and shorts are soaked. So I hear these deer and they're coming in. I'm thinking it's a doe and some fawns when I see rack. Then another, then another. I ended up having 5 bucks come in through this opening, could have taken any of them (unless I got busted first). So I'm sitting there trying not to have a heart attack, they're all within 20 yds, some as close as 5 yds, and I'm thinking why aren't they running? My scent is all over the area, I'm sweating, I'm not wearing a $500 set of camo. They looked at me a few times and kept eating.

Finally one gets a little nervous and stomps, I guess the smell got to him. So they all tense up, just then the trail cam goes off and they take off. I hurry down, change the film and I'm out of there.

Crazy huh??? 4 of them were about the same size like the one in the pic and the 5th one was a bit smaller. I'm thinking all 2.5 year olds so I'll let em go, but what a way to start the season.

Solax I have a nack for finding anything out of place in the woods, but after 40 years of deer hunting I better have!!! I am just thankful that deer pick up on movement and not an object that is stationary!

Neat pic and story, BTW, which further proves that camo helps, but being still is the true key!

Taz, I had sweat dripping off of my nose and was tickling me. Had a mosquito biting my hand, it was difficult but I was still.

Here's a pic of me going in to the woods, notice what I'm wearing and the time compared to the first pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is awesome. It would really do justice to the story if youwind up gettin that buck. It looks like you may need to spin you stand though. Would you have been able to shoot at these deer?

Wow, never know whats going to happen I guess. I wonder if the deer were nearby and curious what the noise was. I''ve had it happen before, but sorry no proof!;)

RE: Do you see anything unusual in this pic?

silent, I DEFINITELY would have been able to shoot these deer. They came in from behind this one, I think he was the farthest to our left. But my stand is angled for a shot that way. I set all my stands up for shots toward the shooting lanes. That's my right knee btw.

I doubt I'll shoot any of these guys, they looked to all be 2.5 year old deer.

Here's a pic of the biggest one, has nice width and main beam length but the tines could use another year.

I think the deer set up a krokay course.

Great story and pic. Isn't it weird how stuff like that happens, then you could be almost scent proof and they smell you from a 100 yards away.

I have one question. When do your deer shed their velvet? I saw three bucks in the last 2 nights and all had full velvet still. Maryland isn't too far from Pittsburgh as far as latitude.

Awesome pics! Great story too. What's the chances of getting a pic with you in it! Nice! Speaking of nice, that's a nice looking group of bachelor bucks, yesiree. Maryland correct? A hunting buddy goes there each year for one week. I've seen some of the MONSTER whitetails he has harvested and can fully understand why you would let them walk. Those are fine bucks by PA standards though. Here's to hoping our recent antler restriction produces some bruisers like you have in your state. :)

Edited to say someone beat me to it.

Great story ! I'm not 100% in agreement to perfect scent removal,i've had this type of thing happen to me as well .deer have walked right up on me while hanging my stand when getting ready for the season.

Didn't notice at first, but there are three bucks in that last pic.........good job!!

RE: Do you see anything unusual in this pic?

Jollyarcher, correct, I'm here in Southern Maryland.

livbucks, all of the bucks here are still in velvet. I believe they start dropping it around Sept. 1. Our archery season starts Sept. 15, I hope every year that I'll have a buck under my stand who's late to take his velvet off.

Pro-line, do you see another buck? Where? Or were you talking about me? There were 5 bucks in that area and I was surprised that the camera only picked up that one.

Oh yeah, and I think the croquet wicket is just an imperfection in the film......unless..... the deer are more sophisticated than we think!!!

Solax...Look about 3 of that deer's widths right of the visible buck. Then one deer width higher. You can make out legs and body. I blew it up, and it sure looks like it to me. I'm going to post a pic of the area so you know where I am looking. Hopefully somebody can post a clearer pic than me.

RE: Do you see anything unusual in this pic?

Pro, I'm looking at the original (which is much clear btw, that scanner sucks) anyway, I think you're right. It looks like a deer's tail end. That's right were the others were standing too so I'm gonna say "Yes" that is another deer.

This has been the coolest thing. It's one thing to tell a hunting story but to have proof. It's great. I have a buddy that wants to film me take a doe on a crop damage permit, if that happens I don't know if I'll be able to contain myself.

SO ADDICTEED!!!!!:D

I still can't see you in the tree in that first pic....but I think I see bigfoot though. :D

RE: Do you see anything unusual in this pic?

Mart, look to the left of the deer, all the way at the top of the photo. You'll see a hole to the sky and to the left of that you'll see a thick tree, that's my knee sticking out from behind there. You can't see my whole body, just me knee.
