RE: Cabelas vs Bass Pro
If you actually live near a cabela's, they have a ton of fishing stuff in the store. I bet close to 1/3 of the store is fishing related. It's pretty impressive. That is the main reason I shop at cabela's, they have a lot of inventory. The down side is they change thier inventory frequently and move the displays around alot! At least in the archery department anyways. If they had something you liked last season, don't count on it being there this season. And I garuantee it won't be in the same spot. I have a theory that cabela's is ran by either a gay couple, or women. They just can't quit moving the furniture around!
It's actually a marketing stratigy. If you can't find what you are looking for you have go looking for it, in turn looking at other things. They pray on peoples compulsiveness. You see something and go "Hey I could use that!". Next thing you know you have 50 dollars worth of stuff in your hands when all you went for is field tips.
I have never seen a basspro shop though, so I have nothing to compare it to.

RE: Cabelas vs Bass Pro
I used to love Cabela's until they put one in my back yard. It used to seem like a candy store, and now that I can go there all the time its really becoming a Ho-Hum place. There are two things that I can't stand 1.) Too expensive (I'm a businessman and their profit margins make me sick.) 2.) Every time I go there I can't find what I want, you would think that they would have everything under the sun. On more than one occasion they have referred me to a local archery store because they didn't have what I needed. The last time I went their I need a 5/16 cable slide for my Martin Jaguar, NOPE. Oh and another thing, they built the store in a nice small community that is exponentially growing because Cabela's opened. Now for miles around where there was nice farm land that could be hunted; hotels, gas stations, fast food joints, and strip malls are springing up. The way I see it Wal-Mart, Cabelas, and Bass-Pro are wrecking prime hunting ground. I would have preffered to mail order my crap rather than see wide open spaces replaced with buildings and pavement.

I prefer Cabelas, my first item was a pair of binoculars bought back in the 80's, and my first backpack much to my amasement those items still hold steadfast and true as the day i bought them. and i have been doing business with them ever since. They just seem to be as though an old friend you can rely on for years and years.

I've been to the Bass Pro in Springfield MO and it's great! I've also been to the new Cabelas in Kansas City KS and it's great too.
Problem is they are building a Bass Pro Shops 12 miles from my house! I just can't wait!

RE: Cabelas vs Bass Pro
Ive ordered from both, but have only visited BassPro, there are plans to build a cabelas nearby as well as a 2nd basspro, I can see myself spending alot of time at each
BUt catalog wise, I believe that cabelas has a slight edge over BPS on the hunting, not by much though.
