is this considered baiting?
 

im thinking about putting out a salt or mineral lick this week near a deerstand. is it considered baiting to have it fairly close (30-40 yards) away from my treestand. is this legal?

You had better chack your laws in your state. In Minnesota a mineral block isn't considered food. So you can hunt by them.

Bait
• No person may place or use bait for the purpose of taking deer.
“Bait” is defined as grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, hay, or other food
transported and placed for the purpose of attracting or enticing
deer. This restriction does not apply to foods resulting from normal
or accepted farming, forest management, wildlife management,
orchard management, or similar land management activities.
• Liquid scents, salt, and minerals are not considered bait.

from how i understand MY local laws, i believe "BAITING" to be hunting above or within direct sight of the "BAIT"
the way i interpret that is if yoru hunting in your tree stand and there are apples and corn under your stand your "BAITING"
but some states make you take teh "bait out up to 10 days before the season opens. now some peopel dont do that and remove it the day of the season starting. i personally dont think getting a 10,000$ fine cute or funny in any way so i remove my "attractants" out 10 days before the season. now i also hunt above the corner of a corn field which i can not remove so is that technically "baiting" ?

Hunt within 200 yards or within sight of a baited area, unless bait has been removed completely for 10 or more days

So there you have. I tried to find a defination of bait in you dnr regualtions but to no avail. You may want to call and request the defination of bait in writing
