Permission, lease, own, public

What category is the land you hunt?
90% of my hunting is on land that permission has been granted to me and which I do not pay the owner. I am courteous, offer meat/help, but do not pay.
7% is my property behind the house
3% is public land hunting

90% Public land.
10% Private land. I just ask permission to hunt this private land. I do not pay a access fee of any kind.

I've really got 3 main properties I hunt. My honey hole is 3 acre behind my grandmothers. The best stand I have.
I've got the 50 acres mentioned in another post that is owned by my parents.
I have a camp in the north woods of Maine that is hundred of thousands of acres paper company land but I really only concentrate on about 150 acres.
There are a couple of other small public properties I hunt. These I might be lucky to get into an evening each per season.

I'm 50-50. Some of the best hunting is done on public land, especially bow hunting. I've had guys walk under my stand...5 minutes later, the deer pop right out.

RE: Permission, lease, own, public

This year I would say that:

25% hunting on my private land (90 fully wooded acres)
25% Public land
50% private land where I have permission to hunt - no payments

Oh, I will also be hunting 7 days on public land in Colorado this year.

RE: Permission, lease, own, public

I've got a couple hundred acres of small scattered woodlots and agricultural fields here in IL that are privately owned that I have permission to hunt on. In exchange for hunting privileges my father and I help out the landowner when we car - i.e. work on his car, help him trim bushes, post the property, keep trespassers off, fix fences, etc.

Up until this year I also had an 80 acre parcel of privately owned land in JoDaviess County IL to hunt, but we were running into conflicts w/the landowner who also hunted w/us, so we left. :(

And for the first time this year we leased 130 acres in SW Wisconsin. Hopefully that turns out to be something worthwhile and I don't make the 4 hr ride every weekend for nothing. [8D]

RE: Permission, lease, own, public

It all depends on what I plan on hunting from year to year.

If it's my usual Whitetail/Elk/Bear/Cougar then I hunt %100 privately owned land. I guess you could call it a lease being as I work for the rancher during the summer in order to be able to hunt it.

If I decide to hunt Mulies instead of Whitetail then it's about 50% Public and %50 Private.
