WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
:eek:I AM SWICHING TO CARBON ARROWS, AND I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO 2 CHOICES. EITHER THE CARBON EXPRESS CX HUNTER 300, OR THE EASTON AXIS 340. MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT THE EASTON AXIS IS MUCH NARROWER AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WILL EFFECT THINGS. ANY THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS ON WHICH ARROW IS BETTER???

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I am using axis 400s,All I can say is WOW!
Great penatration, increased speed. |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
iv been shooting both carbon express and PSE carbon force and have to say i like the pse carbon forces better. but my bow shop has different arrows you can try out in their archery range so if you can do that i would highly recomend that.:D

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Carbon Express is by far the better of the two arrows.
I shoot CX300's myself and they are the best I have used thus far. I will be trying their terminator selects here soon simply because I want a heavier arrow than the CX. I also really like the PSE carbon force extremes as well. I have not tried the Axis arrows but I have tried other Easton/ Beman (same company) arrows and IMHO they are junk. I also can not fathom how the axis shaft with the HIT insert thingy can be very strong at the tip. It seems to me that a shaft that has its insert glued inside the shaft from the tip back would be much stronger than a shaft that has no insert at the end of the shaft. A glued in insert should help to hold together the shaft on hard hits. |

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Not to mention, many people are having spine retaining issues. By the way......I've shot and hunted with Easton Carbon Evolutions and am very satisfied. Personally I don't care much for the Korean made shafts and Bob Eastman. |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Isn't Easton going over seas as well. I haven't heard much about it lately but I remember something about this a while back because of the taxes they pay by manufacturing their shafts here in the USA.

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
i have blackhawk vapors and i love em. once i bought my first half dozen my groupings got better and ive stuck with em ever since
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I did a test last week with my axis 340's. I bought a dozen in april and have shot 6 of them almost daily. last week I bought 6 more and shot them. If you were to look at the groups you couldn't tell which were the new or the old. So needless to say, I haven't experienced any problem SO FAR with lack of spine retention.

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Out of both, id say the easton axis arrows. But, in my opinion, you cant beat a gold tip.
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Easton Acc's spend the money their worth it.
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I have no complaints about my CX300's and yes I have stuck them into more than just foam!:D My practice arrows are well over a year old and shoot the same as the arrows I load in my quiver come fall.
My hunting partner swears on beamans, so I think it is a matter of finding the right mix for you. Then again it might be a poor example, he also likes Mathews too, so I'm not to sure their is any reasoning in the mans head;) |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Does anyone have any experience with the Redhead series by Bass Pro? They didn't carry the Gold Tips talked about on this board and the archery pro suggested I consider the Red Head Carbon Maxx, which is their premium series. Rated straightness is .003, 1 grain consistency between arrows and has the Radial Weave vs. wrapped construction. Obviously one of the major manufacturers makes them for Bass Pro but I don't know who for sure. He says it is Carbon Express, and based on his comments, I suspect he is right.
what do you think? |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Oh no... having that old guy syndrome flashback... er... ahhh.... frrrpt... can't... stop myself... PULTURUDED CARBONS!!!!!!! Phew... I feel better now. :)

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Well i agree lou-lou but they are not that good on big deer as far as penetration. i hunted with the A/C/C 3-49 and shot a 300 lb whitetail last season and was not happy with the penetration so this year i am gonna be shooting the Easton ST Axis 340 , i really like the way these arrows fly and hit , i have had NO problems with the Axis arrows . Oh by the way that deer dressed out at 240 lbs scored 147 08/ P&Y 12 point public land deer

Oh by the way that deer dressed out at 240 lbs scored 147 08/ P&Y 12 point public land deer Confused about that statement? Don't expect a noticeable difference in penetration between those 2 shafts........you've only gained less than 20grs total arrow weight (I think 18.5grs to be exact) in the switch, and the difference in diameter is minimal as well. The main difference is that a 3-49 is a .390 spine deflection shaft vs the .340 spined Axis. (An A/C/C 3-60 would be a better match to the Axis 340) If you had poor penetration on a good hit with your 3-49's I wouldn't look to the Axis340 as a magic bullet, those shafts will be quite close in performance on game.........I would look to other components like a better penetrating broadhead design. What are your bow's overall specs? A 27" arrow tells me that maybe a 28" draw? What draw weight? A 300lb whitetail and a sub 400gr finished arrow weight (depending upon the bow set-up) don't always mix.;) Not knocking your choice in arrows.......there's just not enough difference between the 2 you mentioned on paper to justify the switch based upon penetration issues. |

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
NO QUESTION! I would shoot the CX 300s. I am shooting 5575 Gold Tips now (a great arrow!:)), but I shot CX 300s before and never had problems!

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Bow Fanatic it was a 37 yard quartering away shot that hit in the lungs & cutting the heart passing thru to he far shoulder stopping there . it was a great hit .
the a/c/c weighed in @ 355.2 i was pulling 58 lbs. the axis weighes in @ 381.5 i am pulling 64 lbs thats not adding feathers which is about 24 grains go to bowsite.com look under whitetail go to ohio look under the name riley you will see the hole and you will not question shot placement on that deer . |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
Sounds like a great shot! For 37 yards and hitting the far shoulder I think your asking too much to expect a complete pass thru.[&:]
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
you could be right about expecting too much , i am use to shooting these small deer here in North Carolina , a pass thru is the common , but the deer in Ohio are far larger than i expected.

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
If i were him i would look into redhead's carbon maxx these are the exact same as the CXs (made by gametracker) but cheaper they actually are a very good arrow
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I have shot both of the arrows you mentioned , and would chose the cx arrows myself , they shot more consistant for me .
Of coarse the best answer to your question WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST? is , The one with alluninum in the middel:D |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
A C&P from AT
I'm not sure anyone is "best". They all have good and bad points CX/PSE: Tight spine, tight weight, straightness is better in their mid grade shafts than most. Durability is  (barring the Terminators which are very tough) GoldTip: spine is not so tight, weight is tight, straightness in anything but the Pro series is a gamble. Very tough arrows. Beman: Spine is tight, weights are tight..straightness is totally hit or miss. Fairly tough. Easton: basically the same as Beman (same construction types/company), but straightness is usually a little better on average, but still poor a large percentage of the time. I'd like to get some Carbon-Techs for testing, as well as some of the Phantom Pros. If you want absolute precision, A/C/Cs are the way to go..tight spine, tight weight, tight straightness. But they cost big bucks. Whatever brand you go with, just make sure you buy the absolute highest grade shafts they offer. You will have a lot less headaches. They all kind of suck in their own way, and they all excel in their own way. I initially was very impressed with the ST AXIS for example...then the problems showed up and I went elsewhere for a bit...but because of the penetration, and how well they shoot (when they are straight), I may just end up full circle for hunting season. Some things about them suck, but sometimes the advantages outweight the disadvantages for the job at hand. In this case, I'm willing to buy a couple or three dozen and weed out the bad, and I won't be pounding them come hunting season, so It will be less likely I have issues to the same degree as when I was shooting them for couple hundred shots a week. Carbon arrows have a ways to go yet... |
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I shoot axis 400 gr. I was at a seminar were they shot it into a steel door and they didnt scratch!
|
RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
well i have heard many of times the best arrow out on the market is the easton acc...which i disagree with as of yesterday...i bought a dozen beman venture 400's and i tell u... what a great arrow!! if u want to invest ur money in a good arrow put ur trust in a beman venture 400!! great flight and great penetration..

RE: WHICH CARBON ARROW IS BEST?
I would go with the CEs. I shoot Terminator Selects and I love em.
