Once it a lifetime buck

Sorry the pic is not the greatest, I was 19 years old and first year bow hunting, I the shot the buck with bow second weekend of gun season thats why I was dressed in orange. Lots of scouting and of course lots of luck.
Scored 171 6/8, shot in 1993

That's a heck of a nice buck. Too bad you don't have any more pics to post so we could get a better look. Congrats.

Those are some long tines. Very nice buck. Easily in the 150's. Maybe higher. Well done.

That is a nice looking buck. Don't call it a once in a life time though. Go out and find another one. I'm still waiting to get mine but a friend of mine has ten that size on his walls. We hunt resisdential and I do see them that size every year.

That is a fine deer, you are in the same boat I am in, I killed a brute of an 8 point here in Va. in 75 that I will be hard pressed to top, luckily for me that was with a gun so I don't have that problem with bow.:D

Why were you bowhunting in gun season? I've thought about doing that to get a chance a monster that was hiding in an area that can't be gun hunted. Was that your motivation? WoW! Nice buck! Good thinking and glad it paid off. Sometimes you gotta get creative. (all the time, really).

I bow hunt all of the time during gun season. Yes some areas are bow only but a lot of my areas I could use a gun. However when I look back all of those years of gun hunting there was only a handful of deer I couldn't shoot with a bow. I would say less then 4 or 5. So I don't gun hunt anymore, I only bow hunt.

The only thing I can't figure out is here in NC you can only hunt with a bow during black powder season in state designated bow only areas. Why? What does that mean? That makes absoulutely no sense and I guess one day someone will be able to explain that to me. Til then, I hunt still with bow only and I hope my interpretation of the law fits with in their interpretation.

I did gun first weekend of gun season, in our area it is shot gun only and you can only hunt one of those weekends unless you buy a multi zone license back in 1993. No one gun hunts on our land second weekend of gun season, everyone else hunts around our land and that can push deer around to our land. I do not think he was not pushed towards me, he was coming back to check his scapes. In MN we can bow hunt during all gun seasons. Bow hunt is the best way to hunt farm country I think. All my niehbors ask me were are the deer are because they gun hunt only. They do not scout much except watching deer coming out of the woods around dusk. This I have been watching 6 bucks that are in there groups yet. Two of them are close to 150 mark. It is going to be a good year, never seen so many bucks in one year. Saw 5 other bucks in different areas. Thanks for the replies gentleman and good luck too.

Good for you. I have to admit that once I started bow hunting, rifle season just didn't hold the same excitement to me. I still rifle hunt but in the big mountains in northern PA where bow hunting would be futile. Those mountain deer are very wild and once they get a little pressure on them it is highly unlikely that you get one in bow range. Alot of mature open woods and I swear that they can spot you even if you don't move and are hiding behind a tree! As far as not being legal to bow hunt in gun season, that just doesn't make any sense at all. You can bow hunt any season in PA. You are only limiting yourself so why would that be illegal? Can't find the rationale in that.

Well fella's........since i live in ohio i cant rifle hunt:( But i always bow hunt during gun season most of the time except if i wanna get down and dirty with a deer, ill bring out "ol bessy".LOL! But i think that rifle hunters have it easy.........shoot a deer from 300-500yds away............shoot, that is a peice of cake, i like to get up close and personal with my deer, lol.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHhh, im just razzin you rifle hunters, if i could hunt with one i probably would on certain occasions,.:D
