Well Stump...believe it because yes, if the wind is changing to a direction that will put me upwind of where I know (because of extensive scouting) the deer will be coming from, I move! I will take my chances with leaving scent while I'm leaving/moving rather than sit in a location where I know my scent is being blown right to deer! Did you ever think that the longer you sit in a spot, the more your scent is being broadcast downwind? Granted I don't have to move much because my stand locations, enter/exit routes, deer travel patterns, bedding/feeding areas, etc have been thoroughly thought out and planned and I make as sure as I can be that I will have a desirable wind for the stand I choose to hunt! As far as what state land I hunt, the list is very long and that's the key...you need to have many options for all winds! Oh and about you being POed in that situation...rats, I made someone mad! I could give a rip who was POed about it...I'm there to hunt for me...not you!! A quick question for you...Have you seen many large, mature bucks (during shooting hours) that had winded you in the recent past? I think that is one problem that hunters have these days...they don't give the animal they're hunting the credit it deserves and they underestimate it!!
But of course, you don't have to worry about the wind because you wear scent-lok...so why am I telling you!!

Really no need to get snippy and get an attitude with me or what I said. But hey, like you said...your out there for "yourself" and no one else, so do whatever you feel is right and makes you happy.
Your obviously more comfortable walking around in the woods dispersing all that same scent that you just had in the stand and probably more because your moving around thus your sweating and making and dispersing more scent, than I am. Not to be mention taking the chance of bumping deer in the last "power hour" of the day. Once again, have at it and have fun.
Great example right there why I don't hunt public land. All about myself attitude and no one else.
Except for my very 1st post, I tried to stear clear of this whole scent lok versus non-scent lok debate cause all the non scent lok guys always take that attitude. Roll your eyes, put your nose up in the air and tell me it's a gimmick and it doesn't work all you want. I can afford to buy it, it helps my confidence, so therefore I use it. Enough said. My main point of any post you've seen from me was the point of hunting the wind. Can a guy really and ultimately hunt the wind all the time? You can so it seems. Maybe some day I'll learn how to.

It takes 1 time of smelling something out of place for that mature buck to go nocturnal!
If that were even close to true then you'd never see a mature buck on public land especially with you trampling all over the place changing stand locations when the wind doesn't blow right.

Believe me Stump there is no attitude here about scent lok clothing...I'm just telling people the FACTS about the stuff!!! So to say that just because someone doesn't use it means that they can't afford it is kind of far fetched don't you think? I fortunately have the means to buy whatever camo clothing I desire...and I still choose not to be dupped by the unrealistic scent lok promises!! After many times of having "idiots" walk into the woods at first light to jump into their stands and start shooting deer within eyesight of my stand location...you better believe I'm out there for myself...I'm not going to purposely try and mess up another hunter but I will do what I need to do without regard for other hunters! One nice thing is that 75% of my stand locations are remote enough so I don't see other hunters anyways!! You said it best by saying maybe someday you will learn how to hunt the wind...I would strive for that!! And Hazcon, shot alot of big mature whitetails have ya??

Ok here's the last go-round with you Doelover for so many reasons.
Hmm
, never said that.

It's comments like those, in the context that you put them in, that tell me exactly what kind of person and hunter you are. A Mr. know-it-all. Yawwwnnnnnn!!!! Your kind come and go on this website. Shoe fly....
It doesn't seem that you were able to pickup on the sarcasm, but I was joking.
Hazcon7,
If you want to know how to shoot the big boys, just ask Doelover. He knows exactly how it's done. I bet he's got 10 P&Y's on the wall to prove it.

I'm also one who thinks that scent lok is a complete waste of money. I"m not even convinced that careful washing with baking soda and so-called "common sense" preparation is worth much. I've been bowhunting big game for 35 years and have never had a scent lok anything on. Until a coule years ago, I hadn't even tried washing in baking soda or any other meticulous scent control tactic. In that time I've had deer within a couple feet of me (downwind), deer that circled me, yet didn't show any recognition that I was there, even a deer directed under my stand, smelling an apple core I had just dropped. Do I think they couldn't smell me? Not for a second. However, for whatever reason there are times when deer are not that spooked by human scent. If a deer hasn't been pressured, it can be a fairly relaxed critter around humans.
I've worked with hounds all my life and I've found that under some conditions it's very difficult for the hounds to smell what they normally would detect instantly. I'm positive these same conditions apply to deer. Sometimes a deer that hasn't been pressured gets a faint whiff of a human (because of poor scenting conditions) and doesn't react. Many will attribute this to the scent lok clothing they are wearing, but in my opinion you might just a well give credit to the baloney sandwich you ate last year. Either makes just as much scents (sense).

What you do in your woods is not my business - I just count my blessings that none of the people I hunt with have your attitude!
I don't hunt the wind - I hunt deer. If a foul wind blows my way and by moving stands I risk ruining someone elses hunt then I will stay put and take my chances. I see more than my fair share of deer and I am very confident in my scent elimination (without scent lok) It is obvious to me DoeLover that you will treat this forum like you do your woods - that makes 2 places I would rather not see you!

"So you're telling me that if the wind changes to a bad direction you pack up, get out and go home?? I doubt it."
"The wind changes to a bad direction. So you're saying you pack up and leave?? I can't believe you or anyone else would!"

It sounds like you may be the one who has everyone figured out...a Mr Know-it-All???
As far as having 10 P&Y whitetails on the wall, you were a little off. I won't list them because the scores are not important because I consider every animal I harvest a trophy to me(buck or doe), but I do have 6 that measure over 132 1/8".
Anyways, we could have a battle of wits but I have sneaky suspicion that you are a little short on ammo! Keep up the originality in your replies...do you sense the sarcasm in that?

for all of you users of baking soda, do you use it as a detergent or as a spray after you wash your clothes? and also, how much of it would you use for one hunting suit or in your mixture?
thanks,
raim
