Lucky or unlucky? Robinhood arrows

Just shot my third robinhood of my life and I don't know if that is lucky or unlucky. I lost 2 more arrows in the process but they do look cool hanging on the wall. I tried to post a picture but I keep getting a "file is to large" message when I try. Anyway it is in a McEnze deer target otherwise I don't usually shoot at the same spot on targets.

I got my first a couple weeks ago. i just pulled it apart and put the busted up arrow in the gun safe. i'd keep it but i need to buy some more arrows and am getting low. I take it as a mixed blessing, good because i got the arrows in a tiny group and robin hooded but bad because the CX-200's are around 10 bucks a pop.

I've got about 14 or 15 robinhoods hanging on the wall. I had a few more, but they got broken up during a move.:( I'd rather have the trophy than try and save a few measely bucks by salvaging an arrow. All mine are documented: date, distance, what bow I was using.

There are guys who will spend their whole bowhunting career and NEVER get a robin hood. Accept them for what they are and hang onto them so those guys will see that it CAN be done. ;)

They're just happy accidents. :D

If it wasn't for Unibushings I'm not sure I'd have an arrow to shoot.;)

If you are dialed in, shooting groups and have any sort of press fit nock with no bushing on an all carbon arrow you are asking for very expensive decorations.

Obviously a shooter with better skill is going to have more opportunities to shoot Robinhoods, but anyone who constantly shoots groups is going to eventually get one.......I don't call it lucky or unlucky........I call it "bound to happen".:)

Uh-huh:D

The more arrows you shoot in your groups increases the odds of getting one, and the tighter your groups the odds are better. Like Matt said, it's bound to happen!

I've had two near misses so far. The arrows hit the nocks of the other arrows, bust them and the back end, but don't stick into the arrow itself, they brush off and go into the target. Lucky me?

I had one robin hood with my old Bear Black Bear bow, when I bought my new Browning Ambush I immediatly started cutting fletchings off and creased an arrow, I went and bought a 5 bulls eye target, I can't afford to ruin arrows! Like others have said, some of it is luck, but most of it is skill. If you are not shooting tight patterns and get one it is luck, but if you are grouping real tight groups and knocking fletchings off a lot then it is skill. I don't feel lucky when I knock a fletching off, and darn sure don't feel lucky when I ruin an arrow!

I'd have to say in the first few years of shooting it's luck. After that, the skill part of it comes in when you start shooting better and better groups and keep shooting one spot on the target. I agree with Matt. It's bound to happen to sometime. While we were sighting in my very first bow(never shot once before this), I robin hooded an arrow. Skill? I extremely doubt it!! :D I can't afford to do that anymore, so my shooting sequence involves 4 arrows a round....shooting at 4 different target spots. Hopefully it won't happen again. ha, ha

Congrats on another RH. That will be anexpensive habit if you keep it up but it is cheaper than mounting a deer if you're looking for trophies.

Keep up the good shooting an make it count this fall!:)

i never have, but i shoot into a bag of rags and it is pretty hard to do it shooting into rags..im pretty sure i would have if i shot into a stiff target.....because i have broken a lot of nocks.....

I love robin hodding arrows its pretty cool anyway about the file being too large. what i do is take it into paint and just trim as much off as possible until it is small enough

I have done it twice, and it looks really cool, and I can say I've done it, but it is also quite expensive. I don't know whether to be happy or ticked off.

Poor grad student can't afford busting arrows. It is definatly skill though.

I've never done it, I've busted nocks, exploded ends of arrows etc, but I haven't gotten one and after this long I really don't care. I don't shoot groups anymore inside 30 yards cause of the damage it does do even without a robin hood.

I view it like a hole-in-one in golf. The better shot you are the better the chances, however you shoot enough groups and it will happen eventually.

Well, If I ever get another robinhood, it will be at 40-50 yards since I never shoot at the same target within 30 yards. Got a few Robinhoods in the past, but damaged more arrow then I'd like to think about.

I've done it to 5 or 6 arrows in the past couple of years. I sort of get P O'd when I do it. I don't really save them, I have one or two laying around somewhere I think. I usually take them apart becsause I want the other arrow if it's still good.

I would consider it luck for most people. Unless you can say "Ok I am going to robin hood the next arrow" I'm not overly impressed. Like said above, if you shoot enough arrows into one group, or shoot often enough it will happen sooner or later. I was shooting well enough at one point though that I would not shoot more than a couple arrows at one spot. I was either breaking nocks, taking fletchings off, or putting an arrow thru another arrows shaft. I have also creased a few aluminums. I did it with a broad head once and sliced one of my carbons right in half length wise.

Unfortanately at this point I am not that consistant any more, I used to shoot a lot more than I do now. I still don't like shooting more than 3 arrows at the same spot from 20 or 30 yards though.

If you didn't intentionally try to do it, I mean call the shot before you shoot it, then it ain't really a robin hood, It's just too arrows sticking together end to end. That's all, just a good miss, but a miss none the less.

Only seen one person do a robbin hood, he did it from about ten yards at a show. Called it and then stuck it. He gets arrows for free.

I 've never done a robbin hood but I have stuck quite a few together end to end that is.

RE: Lucky or unlucky? Robinhood arrows

gotta disagree with the call it or doesn't count. If you are shooting at the same spot each time and you do it, then you hit exactly the same spot aiming at exactly the same spot.

That said, I am in the waste of two perfectly good arrows crowd

i did it once my first year bow hunting with a 30yr old Jennings bow that my dad gave me. i would definately call that luck.
had another chance the other day but the arrow just shoved the other nock up into the shaft, flared the back 1in or so of the other arrow and fell to the ground.

my uncle has a RH that 1 arrow went over 12in up the other and split into about 10 small strips that perfectly covered the 2nd arrow. awesome looking

Unlucky. When you have to buy more arrows. I only shoot singles now.

LOL! Ok here's a little bragging.

A buddy has a small shop down the street and I came in with my Turbo Nocks KNOWING he was going to talk smack and how they suck and I won't be able to group them etc etc...(we disagree on a lot of things but remain friends:D)

So...we played a little game of "Nock Hunter". His with the Carbon Express and a 3" feather and Me with the Turbos. 3 rounds of 5 arrows each.

He broke fins off from 2 of the Turbos in the second round and the third round...I told him "Done playing now" and shafted 3 of his back to back to back.

I was so thrilled I tried not to pee!:DI'm pretty well sighted in but I'm really not that good...I could never do it again:D But it sure felt good for a little while;)

I don't agree with everything he says either, but I'll give him credit, he can shoot well. Better than I can any way. I have my good days, but I'm not that consistant.
