What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I know I want to shoot veins, but would just like to see how many guys use either or. But what I'm really trying to figure out, is if I want to go with 3" veins or not. Just trying to get a consensus on what guys use and if it works well. I'm going to put them on Beman ics 400's, shooting out of an Xtec at roughly 282 fps(if any of that matters at all).
Thanks |

I usually stick with 5 inch vanes or feathers.
|
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I use 4" Shield Cut Feathers with a right helical over top of one of my own custom designed arrow wraps
|
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I shoot 4" vanes. Don't want to shoot feathers for a couple reasons.

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
4" feathers on a hard right helical for my hunting arrows
3" vanes for my target arrows |
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
My arrows have 4" veins with a 4 degree right offset. I kinda kick myself for not getting feathers. Oh well, I guess thats a reason to order another dozen:)

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
5" helical vanes
|
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
5" feathers , I would stongly advise against 3" anything for hunting , and if you are thinking of shooting a fixed head , I think you'll find out why trying to get them to fly will be next to imposable . Why make things difficult . You have to counteract the stearing up front [ie broadhead] with adaquate stearing in the rear of the arrow , 3" aint cutting it .

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
It sounds like 4" is pretty much what most people use....a couple using 5". So it seems that I will probably run with the 4's. Thanks

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
5" feathers. Straight or offset. I have never seen a vinyl bird. ;)

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I use 4" Shield Cut Feathers with a right helical

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I use 5" vanes. They have a slight offset-right, and (I think) they are the common, standard fletching that comes with Easton XX75's.

I shoot 4 inch vanes. I fletch my own at 6 degree left helical. Youll need at least a 4 inch vane to steer a broadhead.

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I just switched back to 5 in feathers right helical. I am shooting a mathews, fingers and no sights. having started bowhunting back in 1969 with a recurve, feathers was all you could get. Over the years I have switched back and forth 2 or 3 times, but this time I think I will stick with feathers. Just had them fleched a couple of weeks ago and they shoot better for me.Vanes are better I think for a fast bow and a person who uses a release. They are quiter and are not affected by rain or blood like feathers are. The bow I am shooting is set very low so it is like shooting a recurve and the feathers work better for me but I have got to turn it up some because I can tell they are not penetrating the target as far as the vanes did.
hope this helps |
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
4 in vanes
|
RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I used 4 inch veins last season. This year I'm switching to 4" feathers. I've found the feathers to be more forgiving and acurate. Also the feathers seem to be slightly quieter during flight. I thought about geting some silent veins (cant remember the brand name) but found out they were extremely heavy. lol Of course this is all IMO and others may disagree.;)

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I'm using 4" quick spin vanes. I had switched to 4" feathers and really like them. But then I tried the quick spins and my groups were even better than feathers.

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
5" feathers on woods and aluminums. 4" feathers on carbons. I keep a few arrows with 4" vanes for shootin' 3D in the rain, but not for hunting.
