5" feathers , I would stongly advise against 3" anything for hunting , and if you are thinking of shooting a fixed head , I think you'll find out why trying to get them to fly will be next to imposable . Why make things difficult . You have to counteract the stearing up front [ie broadhead] with adaquate stearing in the rear of the arrow , 3" aint cutting it .

RE: What do you use..veins/feathers and what size??
I just switched back to 5 in feathers right helical. I am shooting a mathews, fingers and no sights. having started bowhunting back in 1969 with a recurve, feathers was all you could get. Over the years I have switched back and forth 2 or 3 times, but this time I think I will stick with feathers. Just had them fleched a couple of weeks ago and they shoot better for me.Vanes are better I think for a fast bow and a person who uses a release. They are quiter and are not affected by rain or blood like feathers are. The bow I am shooting is set very low so it is like shooting a recurve and the feathers work better for me but I have got to turn it up some because I can tell they are not penetrating the target as far as the vanes did.
hope this helps

I used 4 inch veins last season. This year I'm switching to 4" feathers. I've found the feathers to be more forgiving and acurate. Also the feathers seem to be slightly quieter during flight. I thought about geting some silent veins (cant remember the brand name) but found out they were extremely heavy. lol Of course this is all IMO and others may disagree.
