Crossbow Recomendations
 

And before anybody jumps on me for using a crossbow, I am only inquiring for my father. He injured his rotator cuff a couple of years ago and pulling his bow back has just gotten more difficult every year. He asked his Dr. if he would sign the permission form from the state and he said no problem. I know on a couple of occasions he did not get shots in the last couple of years just cause he could not get his bow back.

Now that I have the explanation out of the way, what are the good crossbows out there? Probablly mid-range bows, not high end and deffinatley not low end. He currently has a mathews, so you know he deffinately likes a good quality and nice shooting bow!!;)

I cant recommend a crossbow as I dont shoot them , but I have heard a couple of good things about Parker Crossbows from 2 disabled gentlemen I know that shoot them....... plus I am a big fan of Parker Compound Bows;)

My Darton's Great Lakes X Bow has been great. Durango model. Ten Point and Horton are also good. But the Darton is a superior machine. Devistating. Look at all of the power strokes (17" is Best one-great. ) Single limbs may be stronger. The only problem is noise with all X bows, Good, Get 'em close. Good Luck.

Barnett quad 300 or 400 is a nice setup and you can get the whole kit including scope,bolts,etc for $299 at basspro....

Personally i dont use crossbows myself but know alot of guys who use the EXCALIBUR x-bow--(legal in ontario during archery season)These x-bows are fast and probably the best in my book.The best thing i like about these is they have recurve limbs,no wheels and cables.You break a string for whatever reason bend the limbs in and replace the string.They just came out with a new model this year called the exomax(352 fps) but has 225 lbs pull------the exocet might be a good model at 175 i think.Give these a serious look,very popular in my area for sure:)

I don`t use a crossbow either but alot of guys around here do and there`s one they prefer Excalibur. It`s got a trigger thats as clean as the best made rifle and no one touchs them for speed( heck we had a buddies shooting my 29" 2317s at 286fps). Regular bolt zips along about 330+.

I may be wrong.... but I think it's the Ten Point Crossbows that Len says are made the best. They're also expensive I think.

You notice how everybody started there post with "I dont use a crossbow but.....I heard this one is really good:;) Its alright guys, you can come out and admit it. You dont have to hide anymore, you will feel so much better if you just come right out and say "I use a crossbow, and damn it, I love them":D

OK... I'll admit it. I know someone who has a Crossbow.:D I'll also admit I've never fired a shot from one. Maybe one day. I know someone who owns one because he owns a proshop and owns one of everything.... or at least tries them out. I also hunt with a guy with a permit because he has a bumb shoulder.

Well I use a Xbow. First he needs to find out if he can pull one back to cock it. There is only one that has a built in crank in the stock to cock it. That is tenpoint. They make portable cranks for other brands ,but they are heavy and around 140 ,just for the crank.I've shot a horton the past 6 years and shot 14 deer with it,but I cant cock it anymore due to my disability getting worse.I am shopping around and in my situation the tenpoint seems to be the creme of the crop. I shot one and with there limb silencers they are silent. They have a built in crank and they come in a package deal. The TL-4 with acu-draw package incudes bow,scope,quiver,bolts and practice tips. But yes they are around 700 average for the kit. 572 for just the bow itself. I talked to several dealers and the honest ones all told me we dont reccommend shots over 25 yards,cause x-bows just loose energy so fast. I never shoot over 25 yards and only quality shots and they never go over 50 yards. Yes some ar fast ,but their kinetic energy dissappears quickly. Betwen 20 and 30 yards my horton drops 4 inchs at 40 yards 6 inches.
