what time do you get on stand?
what time do you usually get on stand in the morning? on opening day i like to be in about 45 minutes before sunrise. i know this is cutting it close, but my stand is in an area where the deer wont be moving through until about an hour after sunrise. the rest of the season i will usually get out a little later.

RE: what time do you get on stand?
Well, in Michigan we can hunt 1/2 hour before sunrise, so I'm usually in my stand 45-50 minutes before. On opening day of gun I like to get out there about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 befor sunrise.

RE: what time do you get on stand?
I like getting in the stand about 1 1/2 or so before sunrise. Gives me plenty of time to get situated and let the woods settle down. The only downfall is that a lot of times, I'll get deer milling around me before light. I can only imagine how big he is!:(

RE: what time do you get on stand?
I'm generally in my stand somewhere between 3:00 and 4:00.

RE: what time do you get on stand?
I may be a freak...but I'm not too religious about getting there at an hour before sunup. I have never killed a deer RIGHT at daylight...and usually don't do well until about 8 or so. It may be where I normally hunt...but that's been my experience. I do try to get in well before first light, but if not, I don't consider it a total loss.
I've actually killed many more in the evening...and will hold out until the last breath of daylight before giving up. |
RE: what time do you get on stand?
Archery season i like to be settled in about 30 mins before daylight.
first day of rifle i like to be in my stand about an hour and fifteen to an hour and half before daylight. |
RE: what time do you get on stand?
i hunt public land here in maryland and there is usally around 30 trucks parked in the area i hunt , 2 years ago i did a naughty thing i went into the woods about 3 hours before daylight and set up some dollar flashlights to give the impression that there were 4 hunters in stands in that area then i kept going to my area about 400 yards past, i got in stand 2 hours before daylight and slept until 20 min before light, that was the earliest i ever been on stand ,,,,, and yes it paid off 145# 8 POINT WITH 21 INCH INSID SPREAD

RE: what time do you get on stand?
I like to be in the stand about an hour before legal shooting light and by 3:00 in the afternoon, I hunt on public land so opening day I will be out an 1 1/2 - 2 hours before light just because I'm so anxious to get out there!!!:D

RE: what time do you get on stand?
I try to get out a good hour before sunrise. I love to watch the sunrise, and I dont want run out any deer.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I try to get to my stand an hour before sunrise, as we can hunt a half hour before sunrise. Sometimes I will change things up and wait until 8 or 9. I got my last buck at like 10:00 when I had got to my spot at like 9:15. I got there and settled in... gave a few grunts on my deer call and bang he was right there! Not much of a buck (scores maybe 100-110) but it was a fun hunt.

RE: what time do you get on stand?
Most of my hunts are local afternoon hunts. I like to be in my stand and situated at least 3 hours before sunset. For morning hunts it's nice to be at the tree an hour and a half before sunrise. That rarely happens with me thought. I'm usually about 45 minutes before sun up. I just cant seem to get out of bed early enough and I don't leave the house without a shower.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I try to be there 5 minutes before shooting light.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
i usually hunt only evening's, it just seems i get better results in the eves How do you actually know if it is actually better if you usually only hunt evenings?:D I love morning hunts to easily access stands. I leave my hard to get to stands for the evening. I'll get in the tree around 30-45 minutes before morning light. |
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I'm with silent, if I can get there and get in my tree before shooting light, I am good. I used to get out there 1hr before daybreak, but that got old, and after I stopped I haven't noticed any difference in success. I kill most of my deer about 1hr after day break.
Another thing, when you guys say sunrise do you mean the first shooting light, or do you mean when you actuall see the sun breaking the horizon, there is a difference. I'm sure we mean the same thing, just different terms. |
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I gotta agree with Pro-line on this. I have done much better in the afternoons than in the aerly mornings. Could be where I hunt. Just works out that way. I will try to be on stand in the afternoons around 4:00 or 4:30.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
30 minutes before daylight
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I like to be on my stand an hour before sunrise, not the same as legel shooting time in NY. That way I can watch the sun come up and listen for the turkeys dropping from thier roost. Last 2 weeks of bow are first 2 weeks of turkey.

RE: what time do you get on stand?
Dr Kill, interesting tactic with the pen lights! Fully understand where your coming from regarding public land hunting... My buddy and I make it a point to be the first person in the parking lot which equates to a o'dark thirty time - usually way to early! In the past I usually liked to be on stand at least 45 mins to an hour before 1st light. Due to a lack of activity in my setups during the early AM I might walk in a little later...
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I get on stand about 45 min before the first ray of light & will stay until about 30 min after dark.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
I like to be on stand 45 mins before. In the evenings, I try to get there before 3:00. During the rut - Show up an hour before and stay all day.
|
RE: what time do you get on stand?
About an hour. But I must say that evening hunts have got to be better because the deer have been sleeping or just resting all day and when they get up they are hungry. In the morning they have been feeding all night and are now full more aware.
