Easton Axis Over Rated

I have shot Gold Tip xt 5575's for the last 4 years and have loved them. I have to admit I got caught up in trying to fix something that wasn't broke. I bought a dozen Easton Axis and gave them a try for a week. Not even close to the performance I got out of my Gold Tips. The one thing I did like was the heavier weight of the arrow but that was it. Out of a dozen I had 3 that were flyers that shot everywere. The other 9 grouped ok but not nearly as tight or as consistant as my gold tips. Yes I tuned my bow for the axis before shooting them and still did not get the performance I do from my gold Tips. I will be sticking with my gold Tips if they will have me back. Hey I know were anyone looking can get a deal on a dozen fairly new Easton Axis 400's.

I'm your huckelberry.

My groups have been satisfactory with these arrows. I have also found they out penetrate my ACC's & ICS's.

The 400's could have been under spined by looking at your bow specs in ya sig.

I have had no trouble at all with my Axis but I do cut my arrows from both ends so I am using the straightest part of the arrow.

Ausie that's exactly what I was thinking.

I have never tried the Axis arrows but I have heard reviews that go both ways. I think I am going to stick with my ACCs for now. BUt, I'll probably try to fix something that ain't broke, before long.....I always do:eek::(:D

I thought about that but don't think that is the problem. My Legacy limbs are 70lb limbs but cranked down all the way I only get about 68lbs out of them, my arrows are 29 inches even. Although I am getting close I don't think spine was the problem. Could of been a bad batch but I will stick with my Gold Tips.

For that set up with anything over a 27" shaft/ 100gr head, Easton recommends a 340 Axis .
A 28-29" 400 shaft is definitely underspined.

I was prepared to order some for my BowTech Liberty at 30"/70# and with a 28.5" shaft and 100gr heads, I was definitely going with 340's........The Legacy is a bit faster than the Liberty.
I decided against Axis altogether and went with A/C/C's again myself, but the 400's would have been the wrong shaft for my set-up.

Is this not the arrow that they show on the outdoor channel all the time, like flying through space, and thats where they got the Technology?? They say on that commericial that they are the straightest ever ever made, how can that be with a Tol. of . 006? Heck, cheap Gold Tips are that, Medium GT's are .003 and the good ones are .001.

What gives?

Besides Space Age Technology was something that was big in the 60's so I guess if you were compairing them to arrows of the Sixties, they would be awesome.
I guess they thought about their .006 tolerance while discussing it over a new "Leave it to Beaver" episode.

Matt I was misinformed then I was told that with the axis the 400 was the same as the xt 5575 by gold Tip so that is what I got. If this is the case than you are right and I could have been shooting a underspined arrow. I will check into it. Thanks

Tex,
I didn't want to say it because you are having some good results, but I think your 5575's might be underspined as well, but they might be closer than the Axis400's. I had the exact same arrows myself and they were erratic to the point of giving me flyers. I went to a 75gr head and they disappeared. I don't believe that Gold tip chart. I think they are a bit weaker than stated.
I subsequently moved up to a 7595 , and with a 100gr head they flew like darts.

That said I'm not the shaft/spine expert around here........maybe JeffB will see this and throw his 2 pennies in as he knows his stuff with respect to these 2 styles of shafts better than I do.

Matt I know I am very close to the cut off stated for the gold tip 5575 but so far I have not had any problems with the way they fly and group wich is good since I bought 6 dozen last year. I am thinking about going up to the next size with the next order It wouldn't hurt to have a stiffer spine on the arrow I also would like the added weight. Thanx Tex
