Hassles of climbing sticks..... Help...
I love using climbing sticks, but I get tired of putting one up, climbing down, grabbing the other, putting it up, climbing down, grabbing the other, etc. Do any of you have any tips or tricks to cut down on the up and down time of putting these sticks up? Thanks.

I only have one, but I usually put it together first...lean it up against the tree and secure it as I go up.
...OR.... You can get screw in steps and use those a few times, then you'll appreciate how easy it is to get your stick up....even if you do it the way you described ;);) :D |

I use lone wolf sticks, each stick is free floating, so the above mentioned method is no good. Keep them coming though.

Silent, I have more sticks now than I can handle. I like using the lone wolfs on a day to day basis.
But thanks for being your usual self.......... ;) |

I usually hook two sticks onto each side of my clibing belt. I make sure they are tied together so they won't rattle together and make noise. I then just put up the sticks as I climb. I found this the easiest, I too got tired of climbing up and down 5 or 6 times.
I also have a rope tied to my belt that is hooked to my tree stand on the ground. This way when I get to the top I can just pull the stand up without another trip up and down. finally, I climb down, get the rest of my equipment, (bow, release),climb back up, wait about an hour then I proceed to shoot a B&C buck. If you do this you will be very happy person. |

ORIGINAL: WV Hunter then you'll appreciate how easy it is to get your stick up.... I found tree steps to be the way to go (I think the brand is Ameristep, or something like that). With the special lever attachment to assist screwing them into the tree, I've had no trouble with putting them in quickly. I've found the sticks to be clunky and cumbersome. However, I understand that public property prohibits screws, so the sticks or a climber are the only alternative. |

I tried the sticks and wasn't too happy with them. I bought a telescoping stick that is made by ASAP I think. You can put that up and the steps are removable. The only prob with that is it makes noise as you are climbing up. I ended up going with API removable steps with lag screws. I can leave my stand up and just take all of the steps. So far so good- stand hasn't got stolen and its quick and quiet. I am not sure if they still make the steps though. I don't see them in the magazines anymore.
