Are There Any Updates on CWD?
 

I have not heard much about CWD lately, anyone see anything recent?

Here in Missouri, they have done 2 or 3 rounds of testing and came up empty. I know they are still pretty concerned about it tho.

I can honestly say I'm relieved that CWD hasn't made the New England states yet. I hope more research will be done in an effort to better understand the disease and actions will be taken to curb its spread.

I hunt in the CWD Management zone in southern WI. I have not heard anything new for a while. We have alot of deer on our 80 acres and I have not seen any that look sick. We will be having earn a buck again this year. I would guess that will be here forever now.

I did hear from someone I work with that a deer died on a deer farm of natural causes at 9 years old and tested positive for CWD. Maybe it is possible for the deer to live with it. Don't know how true that is though.

Here in Illinois it is already south of Rockford. Moving steadily south. They were testing deer at the check station here last year. Not sure if they found any though. State biologists are shooting deer now and checking them also. These guys had to start practicing at 50 yards with rifles.:D Man, i should be a biologist.

I hunt in CWD unit in Colorado. We were required to submit the heads for testing (Elk and Mule Deer). CWD has been an issue in Colorado for 20 years. The group I hunt with has been in the same unit for 25 years and not a single positive test. In the last three years (mandatory testing) we harvested 8 Elk and 14 Mule Deer. Most of the positive seem to show up in urban area where hunting is resricted or limited and people feed the animals. No baiting is allowed in Colorado. Gives you something to think about - No hunting, feeding, out of balance with mother nature and you have CWD. We no longer are required to submit the heads but there are stiil restiction on transporting animals and disposing of remains of animals from the CWD units.
