RE: Tree stand height & Summit Climbers
Thanks, for the info. I look forward to making my purchase next week. Whackabuck, if you work at Cabela's, is their a particular type of climber you recommend?
I am a little afraid pf heights myself. I can sit all day at any height, but when it comes to standing and making a shot that is when things get hairy. It's funny. I can stand all day on one spot in my driveway and not sway or move a muscle, but try to stand on a 2' x 2' platform 16 feet in the air - whoa! That proves it is all in my head. Some of the biggest problems we run into here in Maine, is finding a tree with few enough limbs to get to 16 feet. Hence hang - on stands are real popular, but with the increase in theft, I paln to go with something I can bring home each night. |

Rule of thumb:
"if it seems as though everything is under control.. .. you're probably not high enough" |

RE: Tree stand height & Summit Climbers
I'm looking at the Summit Goliath in Cabelas,,probably in the next week (pay day).
..it will be my first climber since using a ladder/hang on combo the last few years i'm going to give a climber a try. Since with that dog gone old hang on type i was only able to sit on that seat for no more than a couple hours till i got so uncomfortable it was time to get down. ..Don't look back..something may be gaining on you.. >>>>> |

I use a home made treestand that my built from square stock. Its a little heavy but it is solid and quiet. I like to hunt anywhere from 15-20 ft. That height still gives me a good shot angle. Have fun at Cabelas, check out the mountain when you walk in. Their whitetail display is insane!

throwingstar, summit has a new stand - the cobra x4 that has a climbing bar on the upper portion that can be rotated up agaisnt the tree out of your way (kinda like the old baby high chairs) for bow hunting, or left down in front of you for a est for gun hunting.
Too bad i bought my viper last year, i just cant convince the Mrs. that i need a new one already. |
RE: Tree stand height & Summit Climbers
I had a Summit Viper. LIked it, but felt that it was a pain in the ass to bow hunt out of. I just sold it and went back to a Loggy Bayou.

I use a climber all the time and when it comes time to buy another one it will probably be a Summit Bullet. I like the folding feature and the bar to sit and climb with......Enjoy the Hamburg Cabela's...I've been there about twenty times now!!!!!!! Great place!!!!
