Rangefinder for bowhunting only

Questions about rangefinders. I only bowhunt, so I do not need to range an animal outside of bowrange. I hunt in the south where there are heavy thickets and thick bottoms. Very rarely can you even see an animal more than 50 yards. So the question is, are they really worth it? I mean do you even have time to see how far the deer is from you. Do they pick up well within the first and last two hours of daylight? Do you really use one, or is it just a fancy gadget to play with.

Can it really make a difference?

Where it will make the absolute difference is when you first setup in a new spot, you can range different trees, stumps or land marks around your stand to see exactly how far things are and when it comes to crunch time, you won't have to guess at the yardage. That's where rangefinders are the best. Not really when you have a deer coming up to you and your trying to figure out it's distance away. Are they a fancy gadget? Depends on how you look at it. If your a great judged of distance once your in a tree stand, then no....you probably don't need it. But if your like me and have a tough time judging just how far something is. Then it's a great tool(toy) to have.

Another vote for the Bushnell Sport.

Atho I only take it up in the tree once I range everything that I can and make a mental note of things in my shooting range.

Dont want to be making any extra movements when that big boy steps out;)
