kinda off the subject
I recently purchased the outdoor channel and I am kind of disappointed. I don't know about you but I want to see some hunts that show kids what its really like to hunt. Not these private ranches where the feeders are removed prior to filming. This is just my opinion. There is some good programs but there is also some that give hunting a bad name. Any thoughts please post them.

Welcome aboard NTB.
Just like we sit for many hours on stand to see a good buck, we may have to sit in front of the tube awhile before a good quality hunting show comes on. But they are out there, just like that buck you're looking for! |
RE: kinda off the subject
Thanks for the welcome friend well i have been giving it some thought and I'm going to try to market my own video. Its going to be for hunters not just tag fillers, any suggestions I sure would like to hear them.

yah, You should follow a few bucks in a few different years. Say you see a big buck just after hunting season. Make your tape based on him from preseason scouting, his sheds, his scrapes, bedding areas, feeding grounds, and when the hunting season comes along video tape the hunt and finally when you harvest him you have an awesome tape. Maybe you could do your tape on 3 or bucks like that. i know it would be something I would definitely watch.

some are not worth watching then again there are some pretty good shows.I guess they have to make money for there sponsors or there wouldn't be any on. check out BSOT with Dave Watson. I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: kinda off the subject
How much does the outdoor channel cost? Would I have to buy a bunch of other channels with it? Do I need a satelite dish?

RE: kinda off the subject
I've had The Outdoor Channel for about a year now, and have been disappointed with the quality of the shows. I'm seeing the same shows that were aired previously several times.
Most of the new shows coming on seem like advertisements more than hunting shows. The thing that really gets me stirred up is Paid Advertisements throughout the day. I'm didn't get my subscription to watch an ad for the ab energizer plus or sexual enhancers. They jacked up their rates for shows to buy airtime this year by 40% as well. The shows don't have much of a choice but to cater to their sponsors now. There are still some great shows out there however. I try to just watch them for the hunting, even though it is obvious they are edited beyond recognition of the original hunt. I look forward to shows like Hunting in God's Country to come back on in July. Eastmans Hunting Journal is good, but I've seen the same shows now about 3 or 4 times each! All in all though, I'm happy there is a channel out there that shows hunting and outdoors more than 1 or 2 hours per week. I think a certain standard should be used on the show however. I do know that TOC edits some material off shows before airing them, so it's not a free for all out there. |

I WISH THAT I COULD GET THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL, HOPEFULLY ONE DAY IN THE NEAR FUTURE THE DIGITAL CABLE COMPANY WILL GET IT
|
RE: kinda off the subject
I WAS GOING TO GET A SATELLITE DISH MAINLY FOR THE ODC I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED THE 60 " INSTEAD OF THE 30" DISH AND THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL WAS ONLY WITH THE MOST EXPENSIVE PACKAGE. I THINK IT WAS $89 A MONTH. I WILL JUST DO MY OWN OUTDOOR STUFF RATHER THAN GO TO THAT EXPENSE.

RE: kinda off the subject
I just happened to put it on last week and I think it was Sports Afield and they were at a place in Michigan called the Sanctuary. They said it was fenced in. These 2 guys climb up into a shooting tower and there are about 20 deer walking around like they are tame. After what seemed like 2 minutes they see a nice buck but there are so many smaller bucks standing around in front of it they had to wait until they could get a clear shot. Shows like that are not good for the anti's to see. Is that hunting? Not for me.

The outdoor channel is available for 1.99 extra on any DishhNetwork Dish system, the cheapest package is 22.99 + tax. The sytems are VERY inexpensive often free with good credit. I believe Primos does some of the most relistic hunting on there, but the 1.99 is worth it just to laugh at ted nugent<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
