Best bowhunting in Country
I was just wanted to know everybody's favorite place to kill trophy class bucks with archery. Mine personally is S. IL. with texas not far behind
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
I hunt Oh, PA. and WV. All my bow kill bucks are trophys to me.
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Never hunted there but always wanted to hunt PIKE CO.IL awsome bucks up there!
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
If had my pick...well i know #1 for sure is northeastern iowa. best deer hunting the country. Anywehre in Southern Wisconsin would be my #2 pick. i think we have the most P&Y entries out of all the states. Pike County, IL is overrated. It has NOTHING on Wisconsin, Iowa, and southern Minnesota. South texas for bow bucks? nah...texas is overrated too. Kansas and Nebraska are supposed tobe pretty good. wouldnt know myself though, have never hunted it.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Deer slayer have you ever hunted South Texas? If not then how do you know its overrated? I hunt there and its a great place to bow hunt but its a little differnt then the way you boys hunt up north. We do have alot of big bucks taken every year, and one of the best things is you see alot of game ( deer and hogs). If it sticks, bite, stabs, and stings we have it down in south Texas. It mite be a little too rough for some of you boys but that what makes it so great.. Tracking a deer or hog through cactis and mesquite on your belly with rattle snake mite not be what ya'll call fun.We call it Hunting.

Northeast Iowa during the rut
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Any place that is a suburban fringe area. I like areas in Westchester County, NY and Suffolk COunty, NY as I have never hunted Iowa. New Jersey has quite a few deer in the 130-140 class in the burbs but nothing that is near 170+ like ILL or IA would have.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
The best hunting in the country?..............A place where u have child hood memories, a place you can get your kids started in hunting, a place where your children take there first deer or turkey. A place that you spend with your hunting buddy on the worst of days and the best of both worlds, right here where i hunt is the best hunting place in the world for me. I wouldnt give up my spot for nothing, i have been hunting at this special spot for 15 years now and every year i return its just like how i left it............special.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country

|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
I think some of ya fellas miss the point of the topic, while some of you painted us a pretty picture, the questions asks "favorite place to KILL TROPHY CLASS BUCKS with archery". I can't really answer the question because the only place that I've KILLED trophy class bucks is here at home in west-central IL. I would wager that there are parts of IA, KS, or along the Milk River in MT that would be considerably better. Lets get some serious feedback on where to go for a bomber buck.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
WISCONSIN. Over 5000 P&Y kills which is over twice as many as any state except Illinois. Numbers don't lie. Here are the top 5.
WI = 5090 IL = 3749 IA = 2177 OH = 1634 MN = 1557 TX is number 10 with only has 852. Not much for such a BIG state where everything is BIGGER. ![]() All these numbers are from the P&Y Book copyright 2003 second edition. |
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Wisconsin
Iowa Illinois Kansas Those are my favorites for bucks based on antler size. Numbers do lie, though! I have been in areas of Illinois and iowa where nobody enters there bucks in the record books, but everybody seems to have a few on the wall. The best buck could come from anyone of these states. I would have to look at the individule property or outfitter being considered and make a decision after reveiwing each option. All these states have good spots and bad spots. |
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Well fellas if i got off on the wrong foot in this forum i apologize, however i have never hunted out west like some u fellas who have boon&crocket deer in your back yard[:@] you lucky bums;)If i had a chance i would love to go to montana on the milk river. Seen alot of realtree big bucks taken from there.
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Anywehre in Southern Wisconsin would be my #2 pick. i think we have the most P&Y entries out of all the states Northern Wisconsin is good but western Wisconsin has the most P&Y entries. |
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
I have hunted in Texas, Kentucky, Illinois, and my home state Ohio. I would say that southeastern Ohio and southeastern Illinois are my favorites. Texas is over rated in my opinion! Texas has soo much available land that the number of deer is high but for quality you cant bet the two I mentioned!
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
I have Hunted Illinois all my life but would love to hunt some brusiers in IA,Kansas and OH.
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
I'll take my 100 acres in Ky anyday. Lots of deer and some really nice quality bucks.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Why not southern Wisconsin bowfanatic? Yeah, theres CWD and they've drastically reduced the population, but YOU CAN'T CATCH CWD BY EATING INFECTED ANIMALS! The lower population would probably be better to hunt. We have 750 acres outside Boscobel which is in the intensive harvest zone and we killed roughly 15-20 anterless deer each season for 3 years and we've seen so many more decent sized bucks. we dont see as many deer overall, but we dont have a problem filling the freezer. The lower the population= the less competition for food=better nutrition for the deer=bigger bucks in most cases. Look at Texas's P&Y entries...looks likea bunch of big bucks taken from there huh:D there probably was...because they were all shot from BEHIND A FENCE and couldnt be entered in the books![:'(]

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
i can only go by the videos i see. i would have to say the milk river in montana looks like a good one[:-]

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
It is actualy only a little area that has CWD. Alot of Southwest wisconsin wehre im at is CWD or is only in the intensive harvest zone. i dont think they overreacted. What are they supposed to do? Let it sweep through the population and infect all the deer? I think the DNR has handled it as best they can. Now they say they're setting their goals a little lower and leaving a few deer. In another 5 years the population should return to normal levels, but shouldnt be let to get as high as it was. Too many deer is unhealthy for the population. I've seen first hand what population reduction can do for the deer herd, and its great.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
All the above that everyone said. But one state that doesn't get much recognition is Nebraska. The southern side of Nebraska is full of brutes. Anybody heard of the "General" or "Del Austin Buck"? I think it doesn't get a lot of recognition mainly because there is a lot of land in the north and western side that doesn't produce a lot of deer.
I haven't hunted much for other states except Kansas. My logic... if you're seeing big deer consistently then why go somewhere else. |
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Seein's how I live in Iowa, guess I'll just hunt here.:D Would love to win the lottery and hunt Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, and Texas. Maybe someday.

RE: Best bowhunting in Country
Right here in my own back yard.Alot of big bruisers if you can find them. There are alot of B/C and P/Y bucks shot here but everyone is so hung up on the body weight and usually discards the antlers.Thankfully we are starting to turn around, and give the buck the recognition it deserves.
My second would be Iowa then alberta and sask, maybe even manitoba, this province really produces some big bucks I am really surprised nobody mentioned canada in there choices. |
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
has to be west central iowa. i dont know about the rest of the state but the amount of bow hunting pressure and the fact every time i go down that way i see a deer that i sit back and say WOW look at that monster puts it way up there on my list. i am from there so i guess i am biast. Any deer i kill is a trophy to me and that is real feedback.
|
RE: Best bowhunting in Country
i would love to hunt edgar county illinois....monster bucks up there.....but i love bowhunting in my state .......southern tennessee;)
