HOME BREW CAMS

Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to build a Home Cam for Under 60 bucks? Otherwise I see NO reason at all, besides the PRIDE of building your own, to not buy a STEALTH CAM.....

I am working on building my first cam now. I would not think you could build one for $60. My issue with 35mm cameras is all the processing costs and film. I have the cuddeback digital camera. In 6 days it took 26 pictures and 14 short videos. It cost me exactly $0 to get these pictures developed. My only cost is batteries. This camera seems to eat them up pretty good but the home brews seem to get about 6 months for the controller board with ONE 9volt battery. The Sony P32 camera I have heard will take about 300 pictures with just 2 AA batteries. As I see it you can spend the money up front and then only have to buy batteries :D OR you can spend $10 a week all summer every year to get pictures developed.[:'(] For me I like to see my pics right away and not be spending more money all the time.

So with that being said you will have to spend about $250 to build your own Digital camera but you will save money in the long run.

For $60 I can buy a lot of 9 volt and AA's. Yes the cuddeback does eat them but I get them at Sam's Club for about $8 for 12 D Batteries. That will do the cuddeback for about 2 months. At 26 pics a week I would have to go there every week (80 Miles each way) and developing and film would be about $70-$80 for the same 2 months. Factor in twice the gas because I have to go out twice as often I would spend probably and extra $100 every couple of months. I leave my camera out year round. I know I don't get the same number of pictures per week in the winter but I would guess that the film camera would cost me about $200 more per year to operate. That is just in my situation. Everyone's is different.

honestly, you cannot build a camera for the price of the stealth cam. I have said that before. The difference is in battery consumption, amount of pictures you can take, and quality of unit you can build in a digital far outways the 35mm's. now with that said, if you are in a high risk area for your camera being stolen, stealthcam is the way to go IMO. If it gets stolen then you aren't out much. Someone already said it a good digital will run you 250.00 to build which is cheaper than you can buy. trust me, build one you will wanna build more because its very addicting. hope I answered your question, be glad to help anyone interested in building a unit or answering questions about them. building a unit is kinda like fletching your own arrows. you can have the pro shop do it or you can do it yourself. it may not be cheap in the first dozen dozen arrows b/c a good bitzenburger jig will run you about 65.00 but you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. the more you fletch, the better yours will look. the more cams you build, the faster, quicker, and better they will turn out. just my 2 cents. I get all my supplies from hagshouse.com.

Arkansasbowhunter brings up a good point that I did not really consider. That being the problem of theft. I do not really have an issue with that at this time so I do not consider it. If that was a problem I would also switch to the 35mm's.
