book on bowhunting 101
 

interested in taking up bowhunting,and like most of my interests i know where to start,fron the ground up.can any of you suggest a book on bowhunting for begginers.im really interested in one that explains among other things the equipment basics.

Welcome to the world of bowhunting:D My mom works at a library but my suggestion is just read topics in here about different things as well, books, videos, etc. I read one book from Fred Bear awhile back and it gave me an general idea. I am not as new as i once was (in fact just got my first kill with bow several days ago) but i still follow up on tips on here, videos and any type of book that can give me an idea still. I have learned all of my info on here and from a pro shooter. The pro didn't teach me much about archery, just how to grip and release. Nothing about the technical side of archery. You will find tons of info on this board.

For equipment basics: "Balanced Bowhunting" by Dave Holt (It's getting a little dated, but still very good info) and "Tuning and Silencing Your Compound Shooting System" By Larry Wise.

I guess most of the hunting books I like are a little too rarified for the tastes of the masses. "Bows on the Little Delta", "Hunting the Hard Way", "Fred Bear's Field Notes", "Witchery of Archery"... Even though I like shooting targets with 'em, I'm not very fond of the compound as a hunting bow.

Go to Amazon.com and search Bowhunting in the book section. You'll get over a hundred choices. Alot of them are great for the beginner or the experienced bowhunter.
