Wild Hogs and food plots
I'm wanting to plant some fall food plots this year, either winter wheat or Buck Forage oats, but the problem is there are cows and wild hogs on this property. What is the most feasible and economical way to keep the hogs and cows out, but let the deer in???????????

RE: Wild Hogs and food plots
Welcome back Captian! haven't seen you for a while. My suggestion although not pratical would be a tree stand overlooking the plot. If you're close enought I'd like to play vigilante.;)
The crows you can probably scare off with an owl decoy. I can't think of anything to scare off a hungary pig that wouldn't scare off deer. ***Forget the owl decoy. I read it as crows not cows. I thing a tree stand is in order.*** |
RE: Wild Hogs and food plots
The only thing I could think of is a fence around the plot. A square hole fence would be enough to keep out the hogs and cows but the deer will be able to jump it easily.

can't hogs dig? well i heard they can and if they can a fence will be useless.

Fence ain't gonna keep the hogs out.

I can speak from experience on this one.The only thing thats gonna keep hogs out is killin em or trappin em and even then you probably aint gonna get em all.Just get out there and hunt and kill every one you can and you will probably have to hunt them a lot at night to really thin them out good.A lot of times you kill a few and they realize they are being hunted they will move on for a while.A hog or two here or there I do not mind but when a whole herd moves in on your property like they did on mine will destroy a food plot for deer QUICK!Just put the huntin pressure on them and they will move on at least they did for me.Good luck!:)
