My uncle wants to go to CO elk hunting with me and my Dad this fall. I told him to get a compound and lets go ! He told me his shoulder hurts too bad (he has a MO disbility permit and shoots a crossbow, has been for years). Anyway, I told him to give it a shot anyway, a modern compound has come a LONGGG way in the past 10 years. He said he'd think about it.

Called me the next day and said he went to an archery shop. He can pull 60 pounds but 55 pounds is more comfortable !! He said count him in for 2004 elk hunt.

So much for the 'ol "my shoulder hurts" excuse huh ?!! I suspect with a pro-shops help he'll be more accurate than I am with my recurve in a day or two. I also suspect he'll put the crossbow in the closet and not bring it out again anytime soon :)

Stealthy,
Glad to the that his bum shoulder isn't so bum after all. Are you gong via a pack camp or on your own? Either way it should be a blast (lots of work but lots of fun).

You better get cracking. Colorado "REQUIRES" a Bowhunter Education Certificate.

If your uncle can actually pull that many pounds then how did he qualify for a Disability permit in the first place ? I don't know about Mo. but they're hard to get here .

we're packing in with llamas into a wilderness area

kevin1 - good question. I suspect like most states a doctors reccomendation and thats all he needed.

davidmil -

HUNTER EDUCATION (SAFETY)
Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1949, must have completed an
approved hunter education course or bowhunter education course (for
archery licenses only) sanctioned by a state or province before applying
for or purchasing a license. Colorado honors hunter education courses
from other states and provinces. An original hunter safety card must be
presented when buying a license over the counter at a license agency.

He was born in 1944 so he's exempt from this.

But my question is .... I was bron in 1969 and have an Arkansas Hunters Education card. I've hunted Colorado almost every year since 1993 and have never uses anything but it to get a license, be it draw, OTC, as a resident or a non-resident.

Am I legal in using it to get an archery tag ? its not relevant for this year because I drew a muzzleloader tag, but it IS a valid question huh ?

Uh Stealthy Cat, I dont see how he is exempt. I think he is going to need to get a hunters education course in sometime before you leave. Maybe that is a typo? It says anyone born after the start of 1949 must take an educated course, and you say he was born in 1954? Sounds to me like hes not exempt.

Again maybe you meant 1944?

Jim
