Bow set up ?
Finally got my mathews set up and i am very happy with the preformance of the bow, it is a Black Max 2. I have just one question though, i am shooting a small spinned easton , but the tottal arrow ways about 520 grains. which is way to heavy for my liking.
What arrows do you guys shoot, and can you get a nice thick spinned arrow that ways around 450 or so? |
RE: Bow set up ?
Can you give us some specs on your setup?
I was shooting Beman ICS 340's - 28" weighing in around 420.....29" @ 72#. I've since dropped my draw length down to 28.5" with 26.5" 340's, but haven't wieghed my shafts since, so I'm not sure what they weigh. You could go to www.bowjackson.com and check different sticks and components to find the weight and FOC, give it a shot. |
RE: Bow set up ?
I'm shooting some Easton Axis 340's @ 28 " !
They weight exactly 450 grains finished with Bohning vanes and 125 grain tips ! They are pretty stiff and tough !! Still undecided on them overall.......but they seem like a good hunting arrow ! They definately out penetrate A/C/C's on a 3-D target ! I'm just not getting the long range groups I want and having some trouble tuning fixed blades ! Expandables seem to be doing fine.......but I haven't shot a lot of them yet ! Good luck !! |
RE: Bow set up ?
Hey mitchdually what is the poundage of your bow set on. I am shooting a Easton Axis 340 with 100 gr field tip and they weigh 430 grains total hunting arrow, I am shoting around 273fps.

RE: Bow set up ?
Need a little more info on your setup but you have several options.
Making some assumptions based on the following. 29" arrow length, 4" vanes, and broadhead as shown. Easton ACC 3-60 - 450 grains on the nose with 125 grain broadhead. Easton ACC 3-71 - 443 grains with a 100 grain broadhead. Easton AC Kinetic 340 - 483 grains with 100 grain broadhead. (Expensive) Easton C2 Obsession 340 - 451 grains with 100 grain broadhead. (Obsession Camo Shaft) Gold Tip Pro Hunter XT 75/95 Camo - 458 grains with 125 grain broadhead. The reason I didn't list the Axis arrow is that I'm not convinced that it's the cat's meow yet. |
RE: Bow set up ?
I am shooting a 30" draw and at 70 pounds. I have some easton XX75's they are about 31 inches, which is way to long, i think i am going down to about 29 or 29 1/2. I can not shoot anything to much shorter than that, because my mathews only has a 5 1/2" brace. so i don't want to move my rest back any. that is about it.

RE: Bow set up ?
Then any of the shafts I listed above will work for you.
