you might consider raspberrys and thorn bushes if you get a warm spell late in the season the leeves will grow again attracting the deer to the only greenery around late in the season i have seen quite a few deer eating them late in the year to bad i was limited to 2 deer last year

Plant azaelas, rose bushes, spruce trees and anything else that's expensive. If you go cheap, they look like sh*t and deer leave it alone. If you spent a lot of money and they look good, the deer will mow them down.:D:D:D

I agree - work with the burr oaks you have, cut around them to give them more light.

Also, if you must plant - go with some fast acting type trees like sumak, and some apple varieties.

Sawtooth oaks may work, but first crops are still 7-10 years off (2-3 times as good as White oaks).

BUT............ Plant White oaks for your grandkids - not for yourself.

Yeah, the deer got to my spruce trees last year. This year I'm putting up fencing come winter.

Fruit trees grow fairly fast and produce, generally the second year. However they only produce a good crop for about 12 years (depends on variety) and you have to replace them. They don't have as long a life span as most trees.

Well ladder, Heres a site that sells trees, shrubs and grasses for wildlife at a pretty good price. It's loaded with info on these trees and plants, including growth rates and production rates. rcd's bur oaks are looking pretty good to me.....producing in 10 yrs.
