Practicing from the stand?
How many of you practice from your treestands? No, I'm not talking about in the backyard. I'm talking about from the stand you plan on hunting from.
Do you take a 3D target out to where you plan to hunt (if it isn't 3 miles in) or do you just visualize and hope for the best? |
RE: Practicing from the stand?
This year we are setting up a tree stand by the cabin and shooting at the 3d from that. This will give us the same height as we have on the rest of the stands without carrying the 3d all over the woods.

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I WILL ALOT OF TIMES SHOOT AN ARROW FROM THE STAND TO ENSURE NOT GOT BUMPED

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I guess you could right when you trim lanes, but I wouldn't do it after. I like to keep the area infront of my stand scent free, unless of course I have to go track a deer;)

RE: Practicing from the stand?
after i get a new rest put on my bow i am going to take the hang-on and put it on the edge of the woods and practice on 3d targets until im shooting the way i like

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I take my deer target to the woods, get my son to help fetch my arrows, and I shoot from my stand in the woods. Not necessarily where I plan to hunt, don't wanna stink it up, but I do shoot in the woods, natural as possible.

RE: Practicing from the stand?
Thats exactly what I do. I take my 3-D and practice on it during the summer. Especially if I build a new stand. I climb up in my tree and practice making all shots that I may get to take. I get one of my friends to move the target around and give me back my arrows, but I return the favor by doing the same for him. It gives me alot more confidence knowing exactly where my shooting limits are.

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I've only practiced out of my tree stand, while in my own tree in my back yard. My elk wallows ar 2 or more miles in. I have my own 3-D deer target to practice with, tried once to pack it in on horseback, for shooting in camp. Talk about a rodeo! I do make sure that I have shooting lanes when setting up my stands over elk wallows. I should try it, and pack in my bow, and practice a few shoots after setting up the stands in august.

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I practice from my neighbors deck. It's not as high as I climb but it's good enough to fine tune the 35 yrd shot.

RE: Practicing from the stand?
I do but its not to see were it hits. It should hit the same as standing on the ground. The reason I shot from each stand it to make sure everything about the stand is ok. Make sure my bow will not smack a limb...
