RE: Crossbows?

And personally I dont even like the idea of people using them during gun season.
Just out of curiousity this statement would not have anything to do with the myth about them being a poaching weapon?

RE: Crossbows?

Twenty five years ago, I suffered the ridicule and name calling that everyone is throwing at Crossbows today. Back then I chose to hunt with a Compound Bow! Almost every argument made against the crossbow was made against the compound. Too easy, too many hunters, can shoot to far, poachings going to increase, blah, blah, blah. I've heard it all before. To the point some folks get violent. Hunting is dying a slow death due to a decrease in numbers. The average age is getting older and new hunters are slow in coming. I say whatever is legal and floats your boat...if it's better for hunting, it's better for all of us.

I've done some serious testing between the Mathews Legacy and the Tenpoint Crossbow. The Compound has more KE and can shoot farther and in the right hands is as accurate. Now, I do have to admit that a crossbow is easier to learn to shoot accurately, but so is the compound compared to the recurve. If thats the biggest argument, I guess they should outlaw compounds too.

RE: Crossbows?

I just simply relate a cross bow to a gun,

1. they both have triggers
2. they both have safety's
3. they have a "stock" like a gun

Don't find any of those ON a compound bow now do ya...?
So I just assume for handicapped only or elderly people to use em. That's why they call it "Bowhunting" not "Cross-bowhunting"

~just my $.02~

P.S. And before I get some unhappy person rallied up, I have not problem against all of you x-bowhunter's in the world, just that I don't have to agree with it either.;) But in the end, it's all about getting a deer.:D

RE: Crossbows?

well i know that in illinois as of now, just about any body can get a x-bow. all you have to do is go to the doctor and tell them you are having trouble pulling your bow back and the next thing you know you are leaving the doctor with a x-bow permit for hunting. i think that if you do not have a legitimate sp? medical reason for using a x-bow, you don't need to be using it for hunting. if u have a physical handicap, then i say go for it b/c you should not get screwed out of being able to hunt b/c you were hurt. well thats my opinion
