I don't carry anything. Where I'm at I couldn't possibly get lost. My girlfriend does always know what spot I am hunting and if anything happens she can tell my dad the spot and its a matter of checking a few stand sites to find me.

Mike,
I carry a two way radio, so that I can be in contact with the guys I hunt with.
Also in my pack I carry the following items:
Compass
Water
small flashlight(2 AA mag lite)
Matches in waterproff container
two kinds of fire starter
lighter
small first aid kit
Space blanket
extra knife & folding saw(also handy to use on game)
extra gloves(if in cold weather)
25Ft of parachute cord(wrapped around a glow stick)
and a energy snack

There is definately a need for it out west. I often hunt in remote places, 30-40 miles away from any highways or horseback in 20 miles. Cell phones rarely have service in these areas.

I take a complete mini first aid medical kit, water proof matches/lighter, tylenol, extra water, couple protein bars, space blanket, 3 knives, nylon rope, firestarter sticks, water purifier tablets, flashlight, folding saw and a small ankle air brace, I wear more clothing than needed for cool nights, I keep these in my backpack while hunting, I would hate to get injured and have to spend a night or two in the mountains without this stuff.

Cell phone, water, a couple of snickers, extra rope, spare batteries, and I always let someone know the general area where I'm hunting.

I don't carry anything. If I am late I could here my wife screaming from anywhere in the lower 48. Just walk towards the noise. Or staying lost would be safer.

My buddies wife called me one day because he had not come home at his usual time. Itold her he was probraly ok but she opted to ruin his day anyway. Missed a golden oppurtunity when she insisted on me telling me where he was. since that day a cell phone or radio is required load as well as water, knives, cord, matches, and protein bar. But always let somebody know what your intentions are.

I've always found that a Playboy book and a bologna sandwich is about all I need as far as survival gear.:) Seriously I'm usually close enough to home or my truck that survival isn't a problem.
