Fletching Adhesives?

After two seasons with vanes I'm ready to go back to my tried and true feathers....you can't talk me out of it, my mind is made up!:D In the past I've used Fastset Gel for all my fletching needs and have to say the stuff can't be removed without a knife....that's a good and bad thing! I'm getting sick of the white halo around my fletchings and I'm also sick of having zero chance for adjustment. I've been thinking about trying tape or some different glue. The problem I've noticed with the glues like Bond-Tite is you have to wait way too long for them to set before taking them out of the jig. That wouldn't be a problem if I had a whole week to fletch a dozen sticks, but I don't. What are you folks' recommendations reguarding fletching adhesives for feathers to carbon(Axis) shafts?

Thanks!

I USE SUPER GLUE GEL. SEEMS TO WORK JUST FINE AND IT DOESN'T TAKE VERY LONG TO SET EITHER. YOU CAN GET IT AT ANY WAL-MART WHERE THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES ARE.;)

Super glue type adhesives are not recommended for feathers. It dries out the bases and makes them brittle. I plan on trying out the fletching tape this year. Also I think Bohning has a new type of adhesive out this year that is supposed to be a compromise between Bond Tite and the fast setting type of adhesives. Sorry, I don't know what it is called though.

Thanks guys! I think that Bohning glue is something along the lines of Fletch-Tite Platinum or something. At least that's what comes to mind. I think that tape is the route to go, just looking for some experience with it.

KY Bowman, the Fastset and I think Goat Tuff are both basically super glue....it sets way too quickly(basically with pressure) for any mistakes and it's extremely tough to remove.

OK Jason, you asked for it. I tried the tape when it first hit the market. My experience wasn't what I'd call stellar. Tape didn't hold the feathers in place and they wanted to curl, just like they naturally do. It is fast but not the best IMO. I went back to good ole Arrowmate NPV, or Bondtite.

Got a question though. Where are you going in such a hurry that you don't have time for the glue to dry? Enjoy the experience. Gotta learn to slow down and enjoy life.

By the way, I just use Super G;ue Gel from the Dollar Store. A lot cheaper than others and does the job.

I've had great luck w/ Goat Tuff attaching my feathers to CXLs. Just make sure to apply some pressure for the 1st few seconds after you apply the feather.

Well, wasn't what I wanted to hear about the tape, but it is what it is. Thanks!

I really am trying to get away from the super glue type adhesives, so I my likely going to try Bond-Tite or NPV. It's not so much that I have to be done quick, as I don't really. I just hate only getting one arrow per hour then having to wait two days before I can shoot them. I suppose I'll just deal with it and do it slowly. I guess doing two or maybe three sticks a night would keep me from becoming impatient maybe produce a nicer job....it was never a problem a before though. I'll see how it goes in a few weeks when I get some more feathers and order my shafts!

Thanks guys!
