Nothin' but words.....
Hiya, all!!!
This I'm sure will be strange for some of you but bare with me...
My hubby and I teach Bowhunter Education in the state of Idaho and part of the curriculum is asking people what words define a good bowhunter.
Here's where you come in... We have some words that the "book" gives us, but I want to present what BOWHUNTERS say.... so give me some of the words (and if necessary, define them too) that you believe describe a good bowhunter.
Also, if you don't mind, tell me what you think of these words....
Quick shot
Conservationist
Environmentalist
Competitive
Well-known
Thanks,
Hikchick

Not trying to start a debate, but don't you think that quick shot could be positive as well? Don't you (as a bowhunter) need to be quick when you shoot? Just make sure you have practiced and that you can be accurate.

A "Competitive" "Well Known" "Environmentalist" "Quick Shot" artist wasn't a "Conservationist" when it came to arrows.[8D][&:]
BUT... what do Well known and competitive have to do with bowhunter education? Quick Shot probably doesn't really have a place in bowhunting education either.

I appreciate so much people's responses here. I know that some of the things that we say about words like well known and competitive are these - well known in a positive light is someone that could be well known as an good and ethical hunter. Everyone can consider the opposite as well. Then as far as competitive - well, you can consider it as competing with the animal or competing with yourself. Many of these words have positive as well as negative connotations. That is why I am asking for your oppinions. I'm not saying that I am right and anyone else is wrong. Just that this is the information that we are asked to teach. Glad to hear from you all!! Thanks.

I don't like Quick Shot either. I don't even take Quick shots when shooting in my back yard. Also, whats up with "Well Known"? Most of the "good bowhunters are unknown." IMO.

Passionate...for bowhunting
Respectful...of nature, people, and property
Reverant...of nature and those who have walked before us
Observant...of all sights, sounds, and smells.
Practiced...with shooting and hunting skills
Prepared...to follow up on shots and spend the necessary time to recover game
Composed...if and when a shot opportunity arrives
I, too, don't think well known or competitive have anything to do with bowhunting. Quick shot applies on occassion, but must not be associated with haphazard.
