You cannot kill big bucks by filling your tags with does and little bucks

You cannot kill a deer from your stand if you aint in it (meaning huntin the wind, the rain, the heat etc)

IMO...yes scouting is key, no doubt. But I also think persistence is key as well. You have to be out there to kill one. Don't let the excuses get you...it's too cold, it's too hot, it might rain, it's a full moon, it's not the rut, my nails need polished....you get the idea, they are endless. You can't kill him laying on your couch.

There is no secret, anyone can harvest mature bucks if they put their whole life into it or if they have the money to spend on canned hunts, yet there's no appreciation in the latter, for me anyway.

Options....Options......Options.......Never rely on a handfull of stands.

Hunt the beds hang the heads.................LOL (thats a new one);)

Never hang a stand where you "want it to be", Hang it where it NEEDS to be.

Catch a Buck coming back to its bed in the morning........Phoey!!!......Ya'all got it backwards boys.;) (that one is priceless)

If you can see your hand in front of your face.........It ain't thick enough!!!

If you can remember where you hung it...........your hunting it to much;)

Don't see what you want or expect to see, just see what you see.

If you can still feel your legs........your a good hour or two from climbing down.

There is ALWAYS another drop of blood out there, don't dare go looking for belly until you find it!!

Have you ever found the mother of all honey holes only to find a fresh stand hung[:o][:@][:@]........forget it - the spot sucks.......move on!

You can walk around your whole life and NEVER have your wallet or keys fall out of your pockets. Stick a grunt, or camo glove in it though and it WILL fall out every time you see a big buck.:)

Hunting a stand once at the right time is always better than hunting it 10 times at the wrong time.

Even pressured Bucks move during the day........you just have to get in there way!

Always have a game plan - no matter how bad you think it is. If its just half right................Its probably the best plan ever formulated for hunting mature bucks.

Mature bucks only want 4 things.........food, water, does and staying alive. Food, water and doe he can get at night - that only leaves staying alive for us.

In order to kill mature deer you have to let the young ones walk.

In contrast you in most cases have to shot does, to get the population in check. Hunting mature deer will be hard when you see 20 does to one buck.

Hunt the wind. I don't care if your garments say your scent free. You are not, unless you are in a bubble. You cannot kill a mature deer today (Not hunting), but your not going to waste your time and ruin hunting on other "better" days. Never hunt a stand with a bad wind.

You can't shoot deer laying asleep in your warm bed.

You have to hunt where mature bucks are to shoot a mature buck.

If you dont put in the time, you wont get to touch the tines.

Well, I can't add much since all's I kills is does with my bow. You guys are killing me! A lot of good tips and common sense stuff has been said. Ye must remember a trophy is in the eyes of its beholder!!! A big fat mature doe can still get my heart a thumpin when I know I am gonna loose an arrow on her. One of these days I am gonna shoot me a buck with my bow. Have fun. I think a lot of shootin a big buck is hunting where they are. Here in the south arkansas, we have a bunch of does and little horns. If I hunted in an area that had big uns I woulnd' t shoot the does. Have fun and remember take your family with you to enjoy!:)

I don't think I'm qualifind to answer this question as I've only taken one mature buck.

My best suggestion is hunt often and in less than perfect weather. If you uncomfortable sitting because of the weather chances are the deer are as well. Just wait and they'll be along shortly.

It's never going to happen though, for one because there's is no rifle season where I live and two because I don't think my Shih Tzu would appreciate a gun going off in the house and momma doesn't like it when someone scares her baby:eek::D

I did however get to watch a 130 (high 130s) class eight point breed a doe in the front yard! Not everyone can say they have seen that especially not in their front yard;) But I understood your point exactly;) I prefer the "must be present to win" just for smarta$$es like me:D
