What would happen if......

OK tech guys, figure this one out. I'm stuck looking out the window of my 11th story office building and wondering how far my arrow would travel from the base of the building if I flung an arrow at a 45 degree angle? My arrow travels about 260fps and weighs 385 grains.

Any ideas?...

88.561 Feet

assuming 10ft floors and no wind with your compound

With a recurve the number comes out to be 3 ft........:D;)

The problem with you Rack is I never know if you are serious are just shooting the sh!t..:D

How do you calculate that? I barely passed geometry[:'(]

Hey Rack - you forgot to factor in the added drag due to thermal rise. Let's assume this 11 story building is not in the middle of the woods and could possibly have parking lots around it. Let's also assume that Mississippi is warm this time of year. I'd recalculate if I were you.:D

Forced Angles and Polynomal expresion Formulas.

I run this small Formula based expression on Auto Cad 3d 2004. Using a constant of 2.2 as vector 1. Drag is interpilated by random subtraction and becomes a non variant at the outcome. Angle is not constant as tragectory is determined by Vector 1 x velocity sq.

sinh(x) = ( e^{x} - e^{-x} )/2
csch(x) = 1/sinh(x) = 2/( e^{x} - e^{-x} )
cosh(x) = ( e x + e -x )/2
sech(x) = 1/cosh(x) = 2/( e^{x} + e^{-x} )
tanh(x) = sinh(x)/cosh(x) = ( e^{x} - e^{-x} )/( e^{x} + e^{-x} )
coth(x) = 1/tanh(x) = ( e^{x} + e^{-x})/( e^{x} - e^{-x} )

|<a, b>| = magnitude of vector = (a 2+ b 2)
|<x1, .., xn>| = (x12+ .. + xn2)
<a, b> + <c, d> = <a+c, b+d>
<x1, .., xn> + <y1, .., yn>= < x1+y1, .., xn+yn>
k <a, b> = <ka, kb>
k <x1, .., xn> = <k x1, .., k x2>

(a+b) 2 = a 2 + 2ab + b 2
(a+b)(c+d) = ac + ad + bc + bd
a 2 - b 2 = (a+b)(a-b) (Difference of squares)
a 3 b 3 = (a b)(a 2 ab + b 2) (Sum and Difference of Cubes)
x 2 + (a+b)x + AB = (x + a)(x + b)
if ax 2 + bx + c = 0 then x = ( -b (b 2 - 4ac) ) / 2a (Quadratic Formula)

Nothing scientific .......and don't ask me how I know !! But a 350 grain carbon arrow fletched with feathers launched at 291 fps at a little steeper angle than 45 degrees(more like 60) will travel about 300 yrds !!!

Rack.......you want to lend me a hand ? As I am flipping back to my real work [8D] ......I am programming a CNC router to cut several complicated radius' in some MDF panels..........and it's given me a freakin headache !

It'd be a piece of cake for you !! ;)

I calculated with a 45 deg angle down not up:eek::eek:....I don't know why

If I have time I will recalc with 45 deg up.

Alright I got around 771.5 meters or 2531 feet.

But keep in mind I did it extremely rushed. I don't have much time between physics and chemistry class.;)

This is also neglecting thermals, wind, air resistance, and the occasional bird which could pass in front of the arrow.[8D]

I was talking about shooting down, but it still seems like it would be further than 88 feet?......
