? for ya....

I was sitting through my 12 year old daughter's hunter safety course..(she just passed last night)....anyhoo....
The instructor said that compound bows are getting to be extinct...They are a dime a dozen that no one wants them anymore. People are switching back to traditional bows instead. Is this true? I find that hard to believe. I like either one. It really puzzled me.

hmmm Seems the instructor might be one of those trads, at any rate what he is putting out isn't exactley the truth. All my compounds are alive and well.

Just look around and see who is shooting what. I know alot of people who shoot traditional but I know 5 times more poeple who shoot compounds. I have one of each but I my compound see a lot more daylight than the recurve does. The amount of bows Mathews, Bowtech and hoyt are selling this year I doubt his statement is true. Hopefully the rest of the safety coarse dealt with facts.

Yep, I tried to tell him that, but, he only wanted to argue...said he was older and had been around more...

So, I stopped talking about it. Thought I'd come on here and see what you guys thought.

They let this guy teach hunter safety? I'm not so sure he knows what he is talking about.

Those damn trad guys are always looking to pick a fight!

Who's a trad?

And...yeah...that's what I was thinking...I wondered who let this guy in...but..my daughter passed it, and I signed her up with a 4-H hunting/trap shooting group that she will learn a lot from. So, I just let it pass...

Who's a trad?
Traditional shooter. You have to watch them.:)

Congrats on her passing HS. I know very few who use traditional but many who use compounds. Someday I may do both but I willl never give up my compounds entirely.

Oh, you guys had me rollin' with the first few posts. I have not seen Arthur on yet today so consider you guys lucky. I do not know what is potentially worse...receiving a tongue lashing from him on the forums or running into his 6'6", 350 lb frame in person.....:D.

My guess sunset is that the instructor was a traditional shooter as well. They tend to be an opinionated lot.....:D...I am joking ofcourse. ;)

I'm just a rookie in the bow area...but....I didn't expect what I got last night.
I love my compound bow. But, my daughter is starting out on a recurve, traditional....
I just figured there was room for both.
I didn't see what the fuss was with this guy.
Thanks for clearing things up for me.

It use to be you were in a good group being in archery, people respected you for that. Now there are so many idiots shooting (or the lack there of :D) compounds that in order to be in a good group you have to be in traditional. I know lots of people that shot traditional and i know lots of people that use compounds. He is a little out there but tradtional is becoming more and more popular.

Patti, traditional is popular, but compound bows are not losing ground. Sounds like the guy has a chip on his shoulder or an axe to grind.

By the way, in my opinion its a good idea for your daughter to start out with traditional equipment. Specific muscles used in archery will be built up quicker.........and I will ruffle feathers here but, I believe her shooting form will become more well rounded. If and when she graduates to a compound bow, it will be easy for her.

Sunset,

There is somewhat of an ongoing issue between some traditional and some compound shooters. You will see it flare up from time to time...even on these forums. Take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe that's what the instructor is seeing in his area, or in his club. But overall, he was mistaken. There are a lot more people going back to the traditional ways, but it's for a variety of reasons. It would take an act of Congress to do away with Compounds. They are just too easy to master, especially for beginners. I hope they never go away so we can keep attracting newbies to the sport.

Thanks Coug,
I accidentally got her started on the recurve traditional...It is an old bow that was cheap to start with.....(and you know how cheap I can be LOL):D..Once she gets better then I will invest in a nicer bow.

Don't knock fly fishing till you try it ,if you ever do you will find it addictive.
