Cutting Arrows with dremel
I saw a post quite a while back about cutting your own arrows. I recently got my axis arrows in the mail and would like to cut them to size. I have a dremmel I purchased but didn't know what kind of disc or attachment to use to cut these shafts. Any help appreciated.

RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
You can use a black silicone, (reinforced type) saw blade--but you should definitely build a jig to enable you to cut the shafts 'square' at the end, otherwise the broadhead isn't going to be perfectly in line with shaft.

I use a dremil to cut myt shafts also. To get a square cut you You need to cut the bulk of the arrow off before you make your finishing cut. It is a lot easier to cut square if you'r finishing cut is 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

I'm sorry . I didnt read all of your post. I use a high speed cutoff blade to cut the shafts.

Do you need different blades for carbon and aluminum?
|
RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
No--the same blade will work with both carbon & aluminium shafts.

RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
is there a number for the saw blade?

yote, do you know the package number?
|
RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
Dremel # 456, 426 and 540 willwork fine. #456 is the largest of the 3 blades and would be better to handle.

I had thought of using a dremmel too. Good info here.
Hey, anybody use a plain old tiny tubing cutter for aluminums? I saw one sold with an "arrow making kit" and wondered how it would work, so I tried the cutter I already had at home. It seemed to cut square, but it did need some deburring on the inside. |
RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
thanks for the info!

RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
This is a bad idea if you are at all interested in consistancy within a set of arrows. With the Axis you may be able to get by because you have a tool to square the ends but that is it.ampahunter is right,if you make a jig to get the ends square and consistant then this will be fine but by all means do not do it by hand. You will never see your full potential if you do.
Also,NEVER use a tubing type cutter to cut aluminums. Come,on,it isn't but a few bucks to get it done right or you can build or buy the proper equipment. My arrow saw is homemade and uses a sewing machine motor and regular arrow cutoff wheels.Hit the yard sales and find an old sewing machine or build a jig to hold the dremil SQUARE to the arrows. |
RE: Cutting Arrows with dremel
You might want to try using a cutting disk.
