I won't deny they are in my area either. Heck there's probably one in everyone's area. However, my area pretty much sucks for big bucks as a rule. Theres been 5 P&Y bucks registered in my county up until last season. Could I spend alot more time scouting and possibly have a chance at one? Sure. The odds would be very low of tagging one...but the chance is always there.

Yes, you IL boys are spoiled

Of course, Mitch on the other hand......... heck if he lived here, he'd probably have all 5 [8D]

The Rompola buck IS real. Out of Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine was the best article I have read. It had a 48 year old conservation warden with 22 years as a warden who checked the deer BEFORE it was skinned, an he said he was with 4 people in their 40s and 50s all avid deer hunters who found NOTHING fishy. He has nevered had ANY of his 30+ deer scored, along with 2 B&C bucks...one when he shot as a boy in Missouri. He has registered a few in the past with CBM, but none lately. The author of the article said Romploa refused a interview, or allowed him to show pictures or videos of his bucks (alhtough there was an impressive pic with him and 10 or so of his trophys.)
The author called Mitch the "best hunter in North America of whitetail deer", as he puts much of his life into hunting where he is "obsessive." He has pictures, videos, DAILY hunting logs, aerial phtoes, topos, etc.
It also mentioned NONE of the people who actually examined the buck pre-skinning found NOTHING fishy...it mentioned it was officailly scored 3 times, and the B&C scorer said they have the entire 2 1/2 hour scoring process on tape. This article verified in my opinion how real it IS!!!!

I'm sorry for stirring this back up, but I just wanted to get your thoughts on another aspect of all this.

My own belief is that the buck is real, but whether or not it was taken legally, and in the area it was said to have is another matter. I've read this whole thread and can see everyone's point of view on this. But something I didn't see brought up, (my eyes are crossed from reading all of it so I might have missed it), is what's in it for the scorer's? If Rompola was going to make tons of money off it (no matter how he did it), I could see some people might be willing to fake the score sheets for a cut. But, if he didn't make any money, and had none to give, what would be the purpose of three scorers lying about this and risking their own reputations? And if the story onehornjimmy posted is true, why would anyone, especially a game warden, back this guy up if it weren't true and risk their reputations for little or no compensation? I mean, I'd have to have a dollar sign in front of one of those figures posted earlier about odds, but then the IRS would take most of it anyway.

Like I said, there's definately room for suspecting fowl play, but I find it odd that others would go down with him.
